RIP 03 Ford Explorer Sport XLT
Current Ride #2
Yamaha WR250R
Looking to order a new 2020 Ford F250 Lariat Tremor soon. Scored (stole) my 03 Explorer Sport XLT back in 07 for just $7500 and aside from brakes, tires, insurance and gas it hasn't cost me a dime. It's unfortunately pretty rusted out from way to many eastern Canada winter trips and a blown head gasket a few weeks ago. This is a hard purchase financially but I'm hoping to drive this for the next 15-20 years. Turning 50 and this is my first new vehicle purchase. Still going through all the choices and options but have it pretty much sorted out.

Pictured is the F250 Lariat we took out last week for a test ride. I LOVE it! Also my poor Exploder Sport in Newfoundland, Canada last year with a WR250R on the back and a TTR110 tucked away inside beside my son.

I'm REALLY hoping the WR250R will fit inside the short 6' 9" bed with tailgate up with the front tire turned full lock.

Welcome to the forum @Adrenolin - It's amazing how fast the price of trucks have gone up over the last few years, but like you said hopefully it's a purchase that will last a long time!

What options are you thinking about going with? Diesel/Gas?

Hi and Thanks. Automotive costs had steeply risen because of the required subsidies for electric vehicles and research by the Obama administration. While this has been rolled back current prices obviously aren't going to drop back down but should hold for several years without any large increases hopefully.

I'm looking at the F250 Lariat Tremor 7.3. No need for the diesel or its extra $10k cost and additional upkeep expenses. LARIAT Ultimate Package, Quad-Beam LED headlights, Dual Battery, 397 Amp Alternator, Black Hood Deflector, Wheel Well Liners, Heated Rear Seats, Upfitter Switches (cause we need something to play with and flip on/off ).

Annoyed that they grouped the blackout bits in the LARIAT Sport Package with the 20" wheels and Tough Bed. I want the 18" wheels with the Tremor package and prefer a LineX bedliner over Fords. I'll likely skip this package and blackout the main front grill myself. They REALLY should have offered a BlackOut Package on its own.

Color is a huge desision with a vehicle this size. I like the Velocity Blue though the wife doesn't. While she says to pick the color I want since it's my truck, it's also a massive Velocity Blue beast parked in the driveway that she'll look at every day. Happy wife Happy Life so the blue is likely out. The Silver Spruce is also nice but hearing its not going to be available until the Fall.. too far off for me. I prefer the lighter Camel interior over the Black as it brightens up the interior a lot. I don't dislike the Black, just so dark inside. I like both the Rapid Red and Magnetic so.. likely go with the Rapid Red / Camel.

On the fence regarding the Block Heater, LED Roof Marker LEDs and Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Warning with Brake Support.

I'll have LineX do their Bed Liner. Husky Liners for front and rear floor liners.

Hoping I can get our motorcycles straight in the shorter 6' 9" bed with the tailgate closed by simply turning the front wheel on the bikes. Fingers are crossed on this one as I've yet to see anyone fit a couple dualsports in yet. With the front wheel turned the bike is 6' 8" so fingers crossed.

I usually only drive about 8k miles a year and most of that is a yearly highway trip between DE and NS/NFLD Canada. We'll be adding a yearly trip down to WV/KY/TN also from now on and likely a couple shorter trips into PA. 2-3 motorcycles in the back on these trips with gear tossed into a couple large dry bags.

We're also looking for a newer Dodge Charger SXT AWD, darker F8 Green paint, with the BlackTop Appearance & Plus Groups for the wife. She's still driving a 2002 Eclipse she bought new and say she just wants to burn it now. :ROFLMAO:

One tid bit to keep in mind here about the "sport" package

The tremor 18" wheels will override the 20" sport wheels (-570 dollars when you stack the packages)
I know you like the linex more but the sport package (now only about $3400ish with the stacked discount) does include the bedliner, the REAR wheel well liners aaaannnnd the LED headlights. So getting all this will reduce the
perceived cost of the sport package. The only thing that would conflict is the interior... no camel option
for the sport.

I like the camel better myself but was pleasantly surprised when I put my hands on the black interior. IMO it
is a lot nicer than the photos make it look.

Anyways, I just wanted to point out that the Sport has several features
that you are wanting to add anyways, with my build sheet in hand and similar options to yours no one ever told me
that I had optioned the truck in a way that the sport package would have worked in my favor

We just picked up our Velocity blue tremor Lariat with sport and Ultimate package in the 7.3 variety. I’m glad we got the sport package with the tremor. Also we did not get the ACC. Had that on our last two super duty’s. I never used it and it was pain when I went to put replacement bumpers on. Also I have cab lights on all my truck. I really like these as they have clear lenses. They look sharp.

Ps. After a couple of days my wife likes the blue. First one I have bought that is not black.

@abill Yes I was actually going to post up and ask about the package wheels and which would override the other. Glad to hear the Tremor wheels are still what we'd get when ordering both packages. I've read a lot of folks have liked the black interior. I like both to be honest but from the pics the interior is just so bright with the camel. Does the black make the interior really dark?

I'm going to play a bit tonight with the pricing and such between the Sport package and features and without it, ordering the LED lights, cost of having the front grill powdercoated, the extra costs for the bedliner removed for a LineX down the road if issues. etc. I can powder smaller parts myself and send quite a few larger items to a local shop.

@Bigdog950 Nice that your wife is coming around to the Velocity Blue! Mine continues to say to order what I want and that it's not an issue for her. She's right there also but I like many of the colors. Wish they would release when the Silver Spruce would officially be available as that and the Sport package looks great also.

As for Ford's ToughLiner.. do they shoot it directly over everything, taping stuff off or do they remove the LED lights, Boxlink, tie-doans, etc ? Do they extend the liner down between the end of the box and bottom of the tailgate? I've seen older F250 where the Ford product just looked like crap sadly.

Thanks for all the great help (y)

I have had both liners and I prefer the ford. It’s done very well. The tie downs were taped off and here’s a shot of the tailgate. I also have the gooseneck package on my bed

If you haven’t looked at a truck with iconic silver. U should try to see one before you finalize colour choices. I was going to get the silver spruce and then sales manager showed me a ranger in the show room with black wheels. Pictures don’t do it justice. I ended up with a used 2017 f250 in black as my budget wouldn’t reach the 75k Canadian pesos for the one I wanted.

So gonna go with the Sport package. It's not a work truck in my case so hopefully the Ford bedliner holds up.

Was looking at a few F250s on a lot the other day and say the Iconic Silver on several. Very nice but not for me.

Going back to the local dealer and placing an order this week. Hopefully it doesn't take to long to fulfill!
