2022 F250 Lariat Tremor - 7.3
I'll preface this with I am looking for opinions and views on a possible strategy, but obviously will be making my own decisions based on my risk level.

With that said, I have a great opportunity to pick up a 22 Platinum Tremor at A-plan pricing. No other options.. base platinum and tremor package.

I have a F250 Lariat Tremor, ultimate, black appearance, UTT camera, 5er prep, Upfitter, clearance lights, power boards, and heated rear seats on order. So, I'd be missing out on spray in liner, 5er prep, clearance lights, up fitters, and power boards with the Platinum. Some of those options I'm missing can be handled after delivery, so I'm not super worried there. While my order is relatively new and I haven't endured the anguish a lot of people have had waiting, I'm somewhat of an impatient person. I'm also kind of getting the runaround from my dealer and salesperson.

With that said, I'm trying to put together a strategy where I purchase this platinum tremor, drive it and use it until my build comes in, whenever that is. I would then work with the dealer to buy the platinum tremor back. With the current market the way it is and the scarcity of these trucks, I'd think I'd be able to get out what put into it, and then some. I've seen some crazy dealer offers for trucks... so this leads me to think I'd come out ahead on this plan. Obviously, I'd be looking to make a few bucks on the platinum trade in to help further offset the cost of my special order. My other option is to forfeit my special order and continue to drive the Platinum if I fall in love with it.

I do have access to A-plan numbers to cover the platinum purchase and my special order.

Someone smarter than I poke some holes in this plan... if there are any.

The way inflation rate is going you should move ahead with it. Probably will make 10K and enjoy breaking in two Tremors.

That's my thought. I'm not looking for confirmation bias, but just opinions on what others would do if presented with this same situation.

Also looking for any issues with buying a truck on A-plan, and then selling it back to the dealer in a few months in the future and buying a second truck on a-plan.

There is a slight unknown, as you do not know what the market will be when the new truck arrives. But if it is in winter you will have no troubles getting your money back on the first one. You could probably make more if you sell out right but there is the sales tax ramifications and have to deal with people and their banks.

If you have a good dealership it is probably worth it to deal directly on both trucks. With the chip shortage they should appreciate your business.
Sorry can't help you on the A plan, I get mine from my dealership invoice less 3%.

Appreciate the POV! The dealer I'm working through right now currently has a few Super Duty trucks on the lot and most of them are marked up over MSRP. I'd suspect they'd pay a pretty penny for a slightly used 2022 Plat Tremor. The chip shortage and supply chain nightmare isn't going to clear up in the next 6-12 months...

Isn’t there a requirement to not sell the vehicle for a certain amount of time with A plan?

That was my initial concern... I read through the plan requirements and couldn't find anything. That's why I'm trying to lean on the community here to poke some holes find flaws.

You cannot sell the vehicle for 6 months. If you do the person who the pin was supplied to will have their privileges revoked by Ford. Someone offered me 90 for my truck. Couldn't do it.

Is that somewhere in writing? If so, I could not find it in the information that is presented to me.

How soon do you need a truck? When I ordered my 2020 would have been all over that deal. With the current delays you may be past the 6 month mark to swap the Platt to your initial order when it gets in. Not sure if the same dealer you a buying through would be willing to give you more than you paid on trade though.

I've got a lease that is up beginning of the year that I currently have a bunch of equity in..... So the sooner the better.

Plan is dead in the water.... Now it's a choice of wait for my order or drive a Platinum Tremor off a lot within a week

With that the Platt would be super tempting especially if you have not received a VIN yet. Reading all the commodity volatility right now it is even scarier than when I went trough the wait back in the 2020 shutdown. If you decide to wait it will be a gamble on production timing plus shipping timing making it in before your lease is up, but not impossible. A big question I would have is if A plan ordering gets a little bit better priority from Ford or your dealer had enough allocation to get your order pulled sooner assuming no commodity holds on your order.

Super valid points. Part of the reason why I'm grinding so hard over this decision. The Platinum just isn't my perfect truck and I'd have to throw some dollars at it to add the things I want.

I get that, and if you are not going to be happy with the Platt then makes it even harder. Might be a little easier if you have alternate transportation if you have to turn in the lease before the new one gets here.

Sure, the dealer might be a player in this scenario, but they are in business to make a profit. Dealers will rarely ever give you the max that you could get from a private party sale, unless they play games with the numbers to make it LOOK like they are.
But you are an A-Plan buyer, so they are dealing with you based off of pre-set purchase amount, so they don’t have the usual over-allowance (feel good) numbers to play with on the trade.

There are plenty of buyers out there waiting for the right opportunity to squeeze the trigger, so in most cases, selling it yourself to a private party for retail makes more sense than selling it to a dealer for the current market’s “wholesale“ amount.

But if someone asked me, the only time that I would recommend to trade or sell a vehicle to a dealer is if someone’s back was up against the wall and they HAD to sell it TODAY or severe consequences would occur.
Or should I just say, as a LAST RESORT...

There is a saying in the sales tower of most dealerships:

Wholesale for wholesale. (invoice deal, steal the trade)
Retail for Retail. (Overpay for purchase, show high trade “value”)
Retail for wholesale. (that’s the goal for the dealers, charge as much as they can for the sale and give as little as they can for the trade.

FYI- “Wholesale for Retail” (in the buyers favor) Doesn’t exist in the Sales Tower’s vocabulary. 😉
