Guys my week old Tremor was rear ended by a giant piece of human waste!!!

Worried the frame is bent but being the fact that it is like a $90,000 truck they’ll never total it…. Now I’ll be at least a month without my truck, not to mention how do you even trust a truck that’s taken a significant impact going forward is beyond me. The spare tire is pushed up into the rear differential and the shocks and the entire box has been pushed up almost touching the cab of the truck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Very unfortunate start to my Tremor ownership.
Totally sucks! This happens to me in my paid of tundra. Frame was bent but truck was still worth to much. They stretched the frame 😮 didn’t even know that was a thing. So basically I got screwed and they wouldn’t total it. It will never be the same and the older it gets shit will start not lining up correctly. Best advise order a new one trade that one in when fixed. There is no way that truck or frame can be trusted now God forbid it ever happens again!

It's dreadful that this happened to you, glad you're uninjured. Four ton trucks are fairly decent at protecting passengers.

I'm also mildly impressed at how well your B&W Tow & Stow weathered the beating, though it's probably bent too much to retain full function.

I also doubt your frame is bent, but recently I know of a Ram T-Rex that suffered a bent frame. This is a $100k plus truck. They replaced the frame! Didn't know that was an option, but was done. Now days with everything being connect via plugs, quick connect fuel lines etc., it's not as complicated or prohibitive as it once was. FYI

Don’t doubt it. It doesn’t take as much force as you think when you’re hit from behind!

The outcome of this will probably hinge on what is considered the "frame" and how the adjuster writes it up on the damage report. A lot of insurance companies will automatically write off the truck if the word "frame" is mentioned anywhere in the report. The winds of favor may end up blowing in your direction on this. That said, it looks like the receiver/hitch failed and took the brunt of the impact vs the frame of the truck, so maybe you are ok.

Or you could end up like my dad, the neighbor kid rear ended his Lexus while it was parked in the street in front of the house (kid was texting and driving), he was sending me updates from the body shop every couple of weeks for a while there, and no matter how much additional damage they found as they took it apart, State Farm just kept writing checks to have it fixed, all in they paid out something like $24k to fix a car barely worth $40k. He ended up taking an almost $8k hit on on the resale value, it was a lease so he didnt lose any money, but he was pissed that he had to just basically give the car back at the end of the lease instead of potentially taking that positive equity and applying it to something new.

Doesn’t look to bad! That right there was a ruined frame!

It looks like there’s snow or ice in the ground. Not that it matters because these brainless cluckers can hit anyone at any time in any weather. So sorry your truck got mashed but grateful you didn’t get hurt. Every winter around here people are told ad nauseum to slow down, put the phone away, be aware on the roads, and don’t tailgate other people at any time. But nothing gets through and I really think people in general don’t care about their own lives or safety and they sure as hell don’t care about anyone else. Hope you can get it fixed quickly but that might be a dream too.

That sucks, looks like a rather hard hit to break the hitch like that.

My Wife got rear ended similarly in a 2500 Suburban a number of years ago that ended up bending the frame. The shop was able to get the back half off the frame replaced with GMs modular design, not sure what it will take to fix the Ford.

My wife did end up getting pretty bad whiplash and bills from that piled up and PT lasted over a year and still bugs her some to this day. It may be wise to consult a lawyer on this since the settlement she took was a small pittance versus the medical damage. After a year she was tired of dealing with the insurance company who put a real a hole on her case and regret not lawyering up after how she was treated.

Hopefully you don’t have any lasting injuries from a hit that hard and dealing with the insurance goes well. My experience dealing with second party insurance is they are trying to cover their ass and want to make you go away as cheaply as possible but keep on them to make you whole.

I was thinking this too. Is it bent at all? If not, B&W might like to see it and the pictures.
It is marked up in a few spots but remarkably seems fine, I have been bringing it up to shop that I want it replaced though cause how can you trust towing with it after an impact like that??

Crap. I am very pleased you're only sore. Machines can be fixed, but I completely understand that knocked the "new truck" feeling out of the truck. All and all - compared to the Hondog/Nissan/Yota - she held up pretty well. It's pretty wild seeing the receiver snapped, though.

That sucks to have happened, Youre not hurt, truck can be fixed. Does it suck, Yep... But I think its minimal damage.

Damn, glad your not hurt badly. Truck looks repairable just from pics, but understand your concerns.
Looks like the other dude has his problems too.

If it is not bent, it is fine. You could inspect around the welds for cracks, but I would be shocked if you find any. It is steel after all. I am serious about showing the pictures to B&W, they might even want the hitch back to look at or show off. Maybe they will give you a new one. They seem like a good bunch there.

I saw the B&W too, looks like it got a little gouged/dinged. I just got mine in last week. I definitely wouldn't tow with it. Insurance should cover it too. If it was me and they said no, I'd ask them if they were comfortable carrying the liability of me towing 18k pounds down the road if it breaks. As for the frame, if it is damaged, the would probably just replace it. Side note: My son is a Toyota mechanic, outside his shop there's a whole stack of Tundra frames they have for recalls just sitting there on pallets. He said they have one guy who does nothing but frame recalls for the last year, and he's booked out another year. Delership loves it, he MacGuyver'd some stuff to make it go quicker, over the last year. He gets a job done in about 12 hours, garage (and him) gets paid 50 hours for each.

Oof. That sucks. This is exactly why I didn't trade in my previous car when I bought my Tremor or my wife's bimmer. It's all we drive when the weather turns to shit.

Similar impact with my last f150. Bent frame, they replaced the complete bed box and full frame assembly. Truck was in the shop for over 4 months….

A vehicle in a body shop for several weeks/months will be susceptible to what I call shop wear, dust, over spray, etc. I have been through it. Detailing will help, but I've never had a good result.

Let them total it, get paid out (assuming you have GAP) spend the extra $10K and buy a platinum. 🤷‍♂️

My guess is they won’t total it. Way too much value left in the truck. I hope your right but I think they would try to restretch a frame before totaling it out.
