I've been talking about getting a new truck since my '01 7.3 F-250 turned 20, but hadn't done anything - because the old girl still works so hard and I am now just a retired hobby farmer/DIYer - until today. I just wired the money to purchase a new 2024 F-350 Tremor with the Ultimate Lariat and Black Appearance packages. I can't wait to hook it up to my dump trailer and not bog down going over the bypass to the landfill. The reason for this post, is to ask if anyone can think of things I might want to check before I take delivery next Thursday. I've read that a few folks ended up with dummy hubs on the right front axle, so I'll check that. Maybe others have run into fit and finish issues that I should look for. I am going to be driving a rental car 9 hours - from Alabama to Indiana - to get this truck, so I'm not going to have another opportunity with a dealer who is motivated to fix anything for me. So, anything you can add to my checklist will be appreciated.

Congratulations on the new Tremor! Depending on what accessories you ordered, some are dealer installed, while others are just left in the box and given to the customer. Sometimes they come in at a different date than the truck. Make sure to confirm you got everything you ordered.

1) Drive up the day prior.
2) Be there when they open.
3) It's your money.....take ALL DAY if need be.
4) Take a LED flashlight if not two....you want BRIGHT light.
5) DO NOT drive it until you are done with your inspection.
6) If you checked it once...you got time to do it a second time around a little later on.
7) If it's raining, that sales person better be right there with you. If not make them pull it inside.
8) Body panels fitment will be a HARD one to decide. If it's close....better to not "fix" it. If there's a significant gap.....yea....that needs to be fixed.
9) Dummy hub : Either it's there or not. Too easy to fix, even if you leave with the truck. Make them give you a "Due Bill" or some term like that. Basically it's saying they "owe you" whatever is outlined. Usually good for floor mats, or items not found but should be there.
10) Before you leave the lot : EVERY button/function needs to be checked as best possible. Lights, panel roof, power steps, flashers, headlights, AC, Heat, seat heaters....etc etc..you get my drift.
11) Test ride : Well here's the worst part....perspective. You don't like something...they say it's normal. Hmmmmmmmmm.....Hard call. DO NOT baby it. Now...don't floor the pedal leaving the lot either. Just get used to how it feels. Then get to a point where you give it the pedal. Drive it like that for a good bit. Get the feel for the real power. Test all functions as you can while driving.
12) Some things may not be "tested" while there (trailer connected etc etc) those you will have to live with.
13) In the end get someone's number locally from the forum if you want a second set of eyes or second opinion. You never know the value to random friendship/brotherhood. Here's a decent way to meet someone from the forum if possible.
14) At the end....walk away for at least 20 minutes before you decide anything. If you walk back and something BOTHERS you so bad....then maybe this isn't the best choice to go with. If you walk back and can feel a little taller in your boots.....drive it home.

Might not be a "check list" but that's my general process. I've walked away from PLENTY of good trucks. Not many of those I second guess to this day.

Good luck!!

Why walk away from a good truck?
Either the dealer/sales or just something else wasn't what I was willing to take on. Options for one.
Local dealer had a truck...just had the center console, no jump seat (big time "need" for me on 2004 model), and wouldn't budge on trying to get my trade "worth". Found another truck 4 hours away, truck was optioned the way I wanted it, sales made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Drove home happy than a pig with ALL the options and better deal. Mind you the first truck WASN'T a bad/horrible deal...I just wanted that jump seat option.

Buying my 2022....went to two lots...test drove...but NONE had LED headlights....ALL trucks had the other options I wanted. It's 2022....I'm getting LED headlights or nothing.
Found a dealer lot truck with LED headlights...90% of the options I wanted....bought it despite they needed to replace/swap to the correct panel roof controls. Now...I LEFT the truck there...told them they fix that control panel I'm buying it....took them about a day. Called me, it's fixed, I bought the truck. 55K+ miles later....no regrets.

I'm sure there's plenty of stories....just mine.

Thank You! Sorry for the delayed response. We had a microburst at the cabin and knocked off the grid!

Make them setup your Ford Pass app and make sure you get the points. Not sure what the value is of today, but it's usually good enough for wheel well liners or a bug shield, service, floormats or a portion of somthing expensive.
