Been a long journey to get here. Been a Mopar family for the better part of a decade. Two built jeeps, a '94 and an '02. Both of those look like they were rode hard and put away wet, they're basically junkyard Frankensteins at this point. One is my sons, he bought it with water in the case sitting rotting out in a guys driveway in exchange for mowing his yard for a season. He saved up for parts and by the end of the season rebuilt the thing and drove it home with less than $1k in it. (That was a proud Dad moment) The '02 is mine, nothing special there -- just bought a beater to trail run with my boy -- who is now a 19 year old man that just closed on his own house less than a year after he graduated high school (another super proud Dad moment, on both accounts).

Son drives an '18 Ram 2500 tradesman with the cummins and standard trans. He was real big on that standard trans, drove across country to find one. My truck is a 2020 Ram 1500. Both trucks are full new exhaust (factory headers on the diesel, though), intakes, blah blah -- basic stuff. During the first part of COVID insanity I bought the new truck so he'd have something to do. It basically sat in the garage in various forms of disassembly for 2 months as we little by little installed everything.

And... then comes to what brings me here. Since the odd behavior of folks didn't appear to be changing, we went out and bought a camper. I swore I'd never own one of those things, all you need to camp is a sleeping bag. Unless you want your wife to go, apparently. So, we found one that was new and for some reason marked down almost 40%. I guess we got in before the crazy rush of people, because it still books for quite a bit more now than what we paid for it.

But, it's 35' long and GVWR of 8,700lbs. Technically it falls well under the 1790lb payload and 11k+ lb tow capacity of my truck. But, even with airbags and a good WD hitch -- I just don't feel comfortable towing that thing on the interstate. It has no problem pulling it through mountains, hills, and backroads -- but the wind gusts on the interstate... I'll pass.

That said, we want to be able to haul it on longer trips. Camping locally last year and this was a ton of fun. My stubbornness clearly was unfounded as trailer camping is a whole different experience that, in my opinion, warrants a definition of it's own and a completely new word.

So, there I was... looking to replace my truck. Painful decision, love my truck. But, it's necessary. So, we looked and researched. Unfortunately for Ram they have likely lost a customer, a family of customers, for life as a result of this search. Ram just doesn't make a truck that comes from the factory in a way that accommodates our needs. I have to have a rear locker, at a bare minimum. The alternative is getting stuck on our farm somewhere that is likely slick because of coalesced cow manure. Which is fun until you have to get out of the truck to get yourself unstuck.

This is not an option with Ram. You can not build a HD Ram with a locking diff unless it's the power wagon. Well, the not so power wagon has an insane payload capacity of 1k lbs. That makes it a legal liability if you take it tent camping, let alone haul anything with it. Our boat has a 750lb tongue weight so we couldn't even haul our boat with it. What a travesty. Yeah, I am aware there are guys who will say you can tow a 50' semi trailer full of lead with a power wagon -- doesn't matter if the sticker inside the door says you can't then you are risking everything you own every time you drive it.

Then was the issue of the space in the rear seat. The Ram just doesn't have room for a family in the back. There's the mega cab -- but the mega cab doesn't really have a lot of leg room either, and we've got a very large english mastiff that is a bit of a space hog. Not to mention a child car seat and hoping to make that two car seats here in the next year. You can fit a car seat in the mega cab ram -- but I'm not a tiny guy and judging by our test fitting there really wouldn't be much room back there.

In comes the Tremor. 35" tires without having to do any lifting, leveling, measuring, or testing. No need to buy new rims or tires. A very interesting engine that comes from the factory with a forged crank and Whipple has a toy in the works. And... it has a factory rear locker. Plus, and this is a really big one for me, it has KNOBS for controls instead of a weird vertical 12" LCD that you have to push a bunch of buttons and junk on. Seriously, just want to turn a dang knob. Not rocket science. Plus, with a landscape screen you have far better use of screen real estate.

The real kicker, though, was the 4000lb (ish, depending on configuation) payload capacity.

So, I did some research, which brought me here. More often than not I found the information I was looking for from this forum. A big thank you to those who built this site and those who have contributed so much valuable information and experiences.

As a result of all that research, got in touch with my BIL who was kind enough to hook us up with D-Plan pricing and we put in our order today.

2022 F-350 Lariat 7.3l Tremor
Rapid Red
Black appearance
Lariat Ultimate
etc

Basically everything except adaptive steering, dual alternators/battery, wench, and power running boards. All of which I specifically did not want. Well, I want the wench but not $3k worth. I'll likely revisit that someday, hopefully for a used one or find a pull from a totaled truck.

For the time being, I'll put that $3k towards a whipple when it becomes available. Which, based on what I've been reading, might be before my truck is delivered anyway. Could be 3 months, could be 8.

Interesting times!

Well, that's it for my introduction. Kudos to anyone who actually read it all. I look forward to learning and sharing here as the journey goes on.

Awesome introduction man! Welcome to the forum and the Tremor family. You have to be mighty proud of your son for having drive and conquering his goals so early in life. Big reflection on you as a father too.

Hope delivery is uneventful and not too long. Fantastic that you could get the discount pricing, that's good to hear about. The production time can seem like a lifetime but you will be all the more excited when it finally arrives. I love my Rapid Red and I get tons of complements on it. Many can't believe all that comes stock on the Tremor. The 7.3/ 10 speed combo is awesome. It can be a little thirsty but if you are experienced with gasoline horsepower you are going in eyes wide open. I wouldn't trade mine for anything else out there. I'm five months in now and absolutely love it.

Couple things to consider possibly changing on your order. If you are considering a winch in the future, I highly recommend adding the 397 amp alternator. It only adds $115 to the price and includes dual batteries. This will be required down the road in order to add the Ford Warn winch, and is quite expensive to do after the fact.

Also you may consider the factory 5th wheel/gooseneck hitch option. At $500 from the factory installed, it's way cheaper than adding after the fact. As a Ford accessory purchased later the hitch kit alone is like $675 and then you have to install it on the truck, which someone said on the forum was quite a bit of work. Well worth the factory price.

Regardless what you decide you are going to love this truck. Keep us posted as production info comes in and your plans once the truck does arrive. 🍻 👊

Yeah, I had ordered without the dual alt / second battery initially because I figured the Whipple kit wouldn't support it. When I heard back from Whipple that it is in fact designed around the second battery / alternator (or at least supports it) I had them update my order.

Definitely got the 5th wheel prep package. Saw someone post that it cost them almost $1600 to add it after the fact and part of why we're buying this truck is to upgrade to a 5th wheel from bumper pull. That may be 5 years out but it was less than $300 to add the prep package.

Hopefully updating the order didn't hurt my wait in line too much, I think I had it updated a day or two after the initial order but I've heard updating the order can really kick you out in line.
