There were about a dozen of them around the house today. This one just loves jumping the fence into the backyard. It’s a challenge to get to the clothesline, or anywhere else on my 5 acre property without stepping on kangaroo droppings.

Maybe not run, but hop away yes. Although this one lets me get within a few metres. She is more scared of my cocker spaniel than of me, probably because I move slowly so as not to scare her. The dog just wants to sniff them. Also, the natural predator of the kangaroo is the dingo, so it is understandable why they are scared of my dog.

Others flee if you get anywhere near them. Alpha males can attack you. I had one charge at me from 50 metres away. The next day I jumped in the ute and chased it away, haven’t seen it since. No, you can’t shoot them. They’re a native animal and native animals are protected by law. Besides, it’s not really necessary.

They’re wild, very dumb animals that scare easily and do the dumbest things in their panic to get away.
