I just bought a nice book to log my maintenance for the next truck. i am now choosing oil filters, i have see a few reviews online with Motorcraft vs. Wix oil filters and if build quality is an indicator, the Wix looks superior. If i can find the link i will post it, it was kinda eye opening..

what do you guys use and like ?

do you think that brand used can be impactful on warranty use ?

does the threshold for proof of maintenance change with extended warranty ? i plan on getting the Premium+ 8yr 200,000km coverage.

my daily usage case is Severe Condition because of the length and temperature in the winter here and impacts my short trip volume.

I swear by Delo 400 5w40 but its not covered by the Ford spec due to low Phosphorus count IIRC.. please correct me if i am wrong.

i am gonna try D-MO 5W40 which is listed as correct by Motorcraft/Ford and made by our local CO-OP. Local too is a bonus

i always change my oil twice a year at 4300 miles (7000kms)

I've used FoMoCo, Baldwin, Wix and Donaldson filters; so far, I've had the best luck with the Donaldson filters in terms of OAs and mileage. I've settled on 5000 miles for oil changes and every 3rd oil change I change out both fuel filters. Coming from Montana I have always used Synth 5w40 all year and stuck with it everywhere I go. Since you are in Canada, and if I were there or close, I'd use Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 0w40 which is on the Ford approved list. I can't get it here in AZ and I ain't paying to have it shipped down from your neck of the woods. However, in my 2016 PS before the new spec came out I used it and had extremely good luck with it.

For what it is worth, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the filters that most here will say they use as the all do a darn good job. Personally, I will stick with the Donaldsons for the silicon ADB and cold starts along with the synthetic media that gives them 99% @ 15 micron absolute... or so they say. ;-)

Did you look up like a log book on amazon?

they have them on Amazon but i am just using a high quality notebook with thick cardstock pages.

In my Teens (mid-late 70's) I worked at my families new car Dealership. When a vehicle had an O.E. Air, Fuel, Oil Filters, and it had a drivability problem, no questions would be asked. If it had a sticky lifter, or tapping sound and a Fram Oil filter, a Factory warranty rep was called in. They'd do the teardown. It wasn't they didn't want to warranty it for the customer, but .. at that time, Fram filters were that bad. That has stuck with me since. Factory filters eliminate questions, should a question arise.

I used donaldson myself my first oil change on this truck. Didn't give much thought to baldwin even though they are built local to me. I have always seen them as a heavy equipment filters.

Looked up the specs on the baldwin and it says its 8 micron for the F250 spec filter.

Motorcraft & shell T6 oil.
apparently the motorcraft filters will collapse the filter medium in the winter, check out the link i posted at the top of this thread and you will see why this is a concern.

My .02 - I previously had an 18 Raptor which blew the engine at 42k miles. I am meticulous with my stuff and everything is very well maintained and serviced. The best synthetics and never over 5k intervals, all documented. I had a K & N oil filter on at the time of failure which I have been using for years on every vehicle I have ever owned - mostly GM gas stuff. Ford did warranty everything without much of a fight but claimed the failure was due to the K & N oil filter not flowing as much oil as a factory motorcraft filter which is what should have been used. Since that happened, I will use factory filters only so there is one less reason for any kind of a denial. When it failed, it never got hot, never lost oil pressure, it never smoked or made any kind of wrapping noise. It simply just exploded without any kind of indication or warning. So motorcraft only for me now...

I would be willing to wager that Ford telling you that was their way of trying to get you to buy FoMoCo and play on you being scared of losing your warranty. If it was due to the actual filter not flowing enough then your pressure would most likely have dropped which would have tripped a CEL. At least that is how it has been in the vehicles I have owned.

Beyond that, if Ford would have thought it was really due to the filter and could prove it they would have done everything they could to deny the warranty. Regardless of what some folks think, none of the auto makers are benevolent. They are all about doing as little as they can realistically get away with while conforming to laws, expectations and common practice.

Regardless, FoMoCo filters for the 6.7PS are pretty good, notwithstanding the old farmers tales, and lots use them so I'd imagine your safe on just about every front.

I use all motorcraft while under warranty because I don't need to give them an unnecessary excuse.

I really do think people needlessly worry too much about warranties being denied due to oil filters, air filters, brand of oil, grease and general maintenance parts. The only warranties I've seen denied have been for blatant abuse, neglect, modifying the vehicle beyond a reasonable level and/or just plain being stupid. My last pickup, 2017 F250 6.7PSD, was deleted, EGR disabled/blocked and a light tune that modified the shifting, besides the tune to disable the forementioned modifications. I took that vehicle in for warranty work on two different occasions. One of them was for the damn batteries, the leaked, and I'd finally had enough of that. Ford replaced them and did not void the pickup warranty. The second issue was for the Molex connector at the trailer hitch that would allow water in it and short the whole damn vehicle out. Ford replaced the rear wiring harness and was going to replace the BCM and even the IPC if necessary should the harness not fix things. There again, Ford did not deny nor void my warranty. To make a long story short, if they didn't deny or void my warranty then I would all but guarantee Ford won't deny based on using common, popular brands of parts for maintenance. So long as the parts meet Ford specs I'd think they would not give two shits or a frozen popsicle other than to try and schlep their own brand to make money.

In the end, I am about using what can be verified as the best or at least one of the best brands available. I, like the OP, am meticulous in taking care of my vehicles. My way is no better than anyone else's and I am not intending to contradict anyone. I just don't like these big companies trying to passively bully, for lack of a better term, folks into buying their parts by hinting that "it could" void your warranty. I can understand people being nervous though, especially on a $60K+ vehicle.

I just don’t see any downside in using the Ford stuff, it’s price competitive and it works. Available at Walmart even.

I have used motorcraft filters in all my diesel super duties without a problem. '05 100,000 miles, '15 60,000 miles.
