I have a question about the B&O Sound System by Bang & Olufsen (10 Speakers including Subwoofer)

Where is the 10th speaker? By using my ears, I have determined there is one on the roof by the rearview mirror, one on the dash by the tray in the middle, two in the A-Pillars, two in the front doors, two in the rear doors and the sub-woofer behind the rear seat. That is 9.....

What am I missing?

Thanks for the reply, I am just trying to understand - if the tweeter's are the 4 around the windshield, where is the center?

If I’m not mistaken the rear tweeter is with the rear speaker. It use to be in the rear door panel by switch. Someone who has replaced their audio can verify.

Will have to take a look

I looked at my subwoofer enclosure this afternoon, and didn't see anything obvious that looked like a tweeter. I wonder if there are two tweeters in the roof by the rear view mirror to match the ones in the a-pillars?

The things in the headliner are microphones for voice command and handsfree.

The two tweeters you can’t locate are item 5 in the parts diagram. It’s called a ‘two-way speaker’. The rear door tweeters sit in frames suspending them in front of the woofer.

Thank you for solving this admittedly unimportant mystery!!! (y)

How do those JLs sound? I hate the supposed "premium" sound.

It’s not my setup, but I have to imagine it sounds worlds better. I’ve heard good B&O systems, but they’re legit premium options in high-end cars, and cost $5k for the option.

As far as I can tell, Ford doesn’t offer a genuine premium option in any vehicle they make.

It's a shame because the 19 speaker revel in my limcon is pretty amazing...seems like they could have reached into the common parts bin and hook up the truck...

I haven’t heard the Revel, but from what I’ve read, they did a nice job.

My wife’s Porsche has a Burmester system. The price was eye-watering, but man, it sounds good.

surprising B&O would sully their name by producing such a piece of shit like that.

B&O would be out of business were it not for their partnerships with auto manufacturers. They’ve never been terribly great at audio, rather design of equipment to integrate into a modern home has been their main thrust. The real B&O systems in Audis and BMWs have speakers open and light up. That’s completely in line with what appears to be their ‘design first’ ethos. I doubt a fraction of a percentage of Ford buyers even know what a Beosound 9000 is, and that unit was a gigantic feather in B&O’s cap.

Now that B&O has licensed their name to OEs, they can make hundreds of millions of dollars a year without actually having to do anything. Pretty good reason to sully a name, especially when people aren’t beating down their door to buy their home audio stuff.

So with all that being said and to any of the guys on this thread that have modified the factory audio themselves, how was the process? Fairly simple but pricey, or fairly complicated but pricey? haha I'm gonna be taking the plunge and upgrading, but I'd like to save on the install since just the mods are looking to be upwards of $2K. Also, has anyone tried going with a 10" sub anywhere other than below the rear seat? I want to keep my storage. I'm not big on the door rattling bass (I mostly listen to rock and metal) so I'm going for crisp and fast lows. If so recommendations on enclosures. All input is appreciated. I'm not by any means a car audio savant, but I have done installs on 2 of my previous vehicles.

I've been researching and talking to different audio installers about the B&O and improvements needed. There's an in-depth post on FTE where the owner upgraded his system. If you search for it, you should be able to find it. The information he gave me has been spot on regarding what is needed to upgrade and keep everything factory in appearance. When my schedule permits I'll be stopping by the installation shop to discuss options. However, in talking with them on the phone, they were quite familiar with the B&O system limitations. They said there are complete component (except the head unit) replacement systems available. We'll see if I can ever get there.

I haven't looked in a few years but Crutchfield used to have a vehicle configurator that would bring up a listing of what you need to make various upgrades in a particular vehicle. Granted, it was geared toward what they carried, but once you had various measurements and knew what type of adapters you would need for various factory systems, it really helped a lot. You could usually find the various adapters, etc cheaper other places, but their info did help. Plus they usually had full instructions and wiring diagrams for each vehicle they had info for.
