1974 F250 Highboy
Off to look at a 1974 Ford F250 4x4 "Highboy", the original Ford Tremor. I might be bringing home a new toy/ project. It'll be fun to have both trucks to play with. Wish me luck.

That's awesome! Can't wait to see some pics. Good luck!

Cant wait for that story:p

Well. Saw the truck. It’s a mess. Definitely a project. Missing the bed which will be tough to source a solid replacement without going the LMC route. Looks like the front fenders were replaced at some point. Stamped made in Taiwan which is a give away. Rebuilt 360. Runs ok. Brakes are garbage. Transfer case needs looking over. Couldn’t read the markings but it should be a np205 which is bulletproof. Manual trans. Shift pattern seemed like a np 435 and not a BW19. But I’m no expert. Clutch is shot. Cab mounts are rusted through which is common. Cab drip rails look solid. Interior needs gutting. He’s asking around 3k. Seems a bit steep for what needs done. Will be a fun project to do with the kids.

Awesome, been loving the look of the new High Boy version some dealer up North recreates with the 7.3L.

Definitely looks like a project truck. Could have great potential though!

They are something special - I had a 1970 that would go anywhere - even up rocky roads in central PA that we could not climb on our dirt bikes.....

I love the interiors of them All metal! We had two growing up 1976 and 1977 both 250s one had a 400. Used on a farm we beat the stuffing out of them and worked them into the ground. Rebuilt them in the mid 1980s then ran them until was junk yard time. Too much plastic on the new ones, I would not even consider using my Tremor like we used those trucks.

Going back to look at it again on Friday when I have more time and when I'm wearing my shop clothes and not my work slacks! Couldn't crawl around under it. Hoping to disassemble it and rebuild it from the ground up. I'm no mechanic but it should be a fun way to learn more. Kid will have fun with it too. I'll keep you posted.

Badass! Upgrades planned?

The truck needs a full restoration. Everything is there. Just needs going over. Planning on slowly taking it apart and rebuilding everything. Good friend of ours is a mechanic and has a great shop in town. I’ll have his crew redo the trans, t case, and diffs. Really old school machinist here that does great engine work. Will have the 360 stroked to 390. I’m too busy at work and not skilled enough to do most of that myself. The rest I’ll handle on weekends. The body is pretty solid except some spots in the floor. Gotta find a bed. Should be a looker when it’s all done.

Well. Here it is. Drove it home under its own power. Brakes were sketchy but I survived the trip.

That's a great photo @Whyte Rhyno - Those old Ford's will always look tough. I sure wish Ford would have kept the Highboy nameplate around. It sure would be cool to see the old/new comparisons like you do with the Powerwagons.

I won’t post too much stuff here since it’s a tremor forum but I’ll add updates here and there. Maybe a walk around once all is said and done comparing old and new.

Excellent. Needed one. On another forum there was a very easy and useful thread titled:
Questions that aren't worth creating a thread for.

This thread was useful so people wouldn't be afraid to make a whole new thread for a question that has been answered or for something cheesy that could be answered quickly by another. May be worthwhile here as well.

Here,s my 74:) I,ll post many more photos if anyone interested...
