Got the truck basically torn down. In the middle of an engine, transmission, and transfer case rebuild. Next step is to pull the differentials so I can blast and powder coat the chassis. Then the expensive part begins. I was thinking about painting it blue jeans to match the tremor but the wife wants to keep the trim chrome so we’re going with mallard green instead.

Very cool!! There's something about how much a vehicle means to a person when they hand screw things together themselves. Almost an extension of the person or person's doing it.

Oh and just don't paint it velocity blue for obvious reasons.

Nice Job!!

I love that there's a fellow highboy owner on here. I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions when I've got a bucket of "spare" bolts to figure out
Reach out anytime!! Keep us all posted on your progress??

Still waiting for my cylinder heads to come back from machining. But I got the short block together last weekend. Can’t wait to finish the long block and dressing the motor so I can get it reinstalled!

Nice, 360-390-428?

Originally 360. Bored and stroked to 401
Nice. If you can find a set of 406 heads, larger intake ramps they work really well on a 390+.
The 406 was an industrial engine with nubs on the bottom of the valves case they floated, bavknin the day I used the heads on drag truck and a tractor pull rig.
If your interested I can dig up the head casting numbers.

Oh that’s rad. I didn’t know that. Thanks for that information. I’m using the stock heads that came with the truck. I was going to go aluminum but didn’t want to spend 1500 bucks.

Keep up the good work! Loved my 66. Had it over 30 years. ☹️
A nice upgrade is a power steering box from a late 60's-early 70's 2wd, installed on the inside of the frame rail, in front, with the pitman arm going between the frame and leaf spring. (Seems kind of weird, but there's plenty of clearance with a stock height Highboy.). With a Saginaw pump and a good quality steering shaft it works slick.

Good looking truck. I’ve actually got a complete steering kit in mind from bench works. New box. New pump. New links. Eliminates the hydro boost arm that leaks like a sieve.

Course it's also a good idea to use a front axle out of a 77-78 for the disc brakes... It goes on and on right?! Mine was a driver, a work truck, and somewhat of a hot rod too. Over 400k miles, upside down once and still going.
Thought about a front end swap but I’ve already got a seal kit for the closed knuckle set up. My plan is to just find an open knuckle front end that comes with a complete 77 highboy too. Don’t tell the wife.

Yeah bench works has the whole kit for that method. ?
