If its not one things it's another, I should have just sold this damn truck. Literally got it out of the body shop and my CP4 failed. Back at the shop...

Tell us more.

What events led to this?

Mileage?

Maintenance routine? Please don’t tell me you’re also one that does one oil change a year.

DCR time.

My ‘22 is getting a DCR pump as we speak for peace of mind purposes.

Did water/rain (not sure if you got any lately) get in the tank when they had it sitting outside with the bed off and filler necks exposed?

I change the oil every 6 to 8 months. I stopped taking it to the dealer because they would only change it when the truck gave the message to change.

I had a CEL on Cylinder 4, truck drove like crap, it shook, hesitated, and ticked. Shop said It was a bad injector on Cylinder 4. They had a 3 week lead time told me it was okay to drive on just not hard or tow. I literally drove it 30 miles home, it died on freeway at my exit and won't start. They're getting pressure on the low pressure fuel pump, they said they tested injector to be fine, and are running pressure tests on high pressure fuel pump, but seem to already believe the High Pressure pump is culprit. Truck wont start, acts like it tries but never turns over

There was no rain while it was in the bodyshop. It was driven about 200 miles after I got it back from the body shop with no issues.

Here is your first problem.

Why are people skipping out on such cheap and simple maintenance insurance is beyond me - seriously.

By the time I have changed my oil six times, you're still on the same oil AND filter!

Folks act as if oil is super expensive that they hang on to as long as they can. I really don't understand the philosophy behind this - I really don't.

Here is your second problem - truck is misfiring but dealer tells you it's OK to keep driving it? The 30 miles was more or less your answer: no it wasn't OK; you park that thing and jump in another ride.

Now they have misruled the bad injector and it turns out its a bad pump? I have a feeling someone doesn't know what they're doing.

I suggest you pull it ouf that dealership and take it to a competent mechanic to eliminate all your problems.

Sorry to hear about your hassles.

By the way @bbrett you may the first one -- that I can recall from the forums-- that has had a CP4 fail on them?

Where's @Lunch Box 🥩🍔 when you need him?

Since there was no mention of it - I'm assuming there was no DPK installed?

Sorry to hear your troubles! The CP4 is an issue we do several each month! Try to convert all we can! It’s not up to the dealer when to change the oil, if a customer comes in wanting an oil change we are going to change the oil! I will never tell a customer one is safe to drive with a misfire ever! Truck should have been parked but the pump still could have failed either way, but maybe caught before coming apart and killing the system! Personally I change my oil every 3k miles and I preach it also! Check your fuel for water and if so contact your insurance company.

I'm waiting for final diagnosis from the shop tomorrow. So fingers crossed on that. Truck hasn't had a major issues besides the accident which was just the bedside.

From everything I’ve read, if the CP4 “fails” as we’ve come to know, the truck will still run. It’s going to throw shrapnel down stream but the truck will still run. SS Diesel even shows this in a video. Granted the truck has a DPK on it. But the truck runs.

Am I wrong in assuming, and it’s a BIG assumption, that it sounds like something else?

If the forbidden glitter shrapnel gets to the injector(s) it will cause the truck to run poorly or not at all. Sounds like what may have happened here but let’s wait for the final diagnosis tomorrow. The FCA would have glitter on it.

I surely hope so. This has really put me in a shitty mood this past few days.

FCA?

Fuel control actuator on the top of the pump. Easy to access after pulling the intake manifold and turbo inlet off.

Yuck! 😩😩👎
I am so sorry to hear this. Hoping for the best. 👍

Sorry man. Hope it’s covered under warranty at least as I hear it’s an expensive job. Ironically I just watched a video where a hot shot dude who works his truck went almost 900k miles on original CP4. They dismantled it and it looks excellent. Key is maintenance and fuel additive to compensate for low sulfur fuel. IMO I think its more fuel additive then fuel filter change every oil change like this guy did.
