I ran a Peragon on my F150 and really liked it. They were the most sturdy but easily removable covers on the market. If we aren’t camping, I’ll have dirt bikes in the back and the ease of removal is super nice. Now I need to get the cover dirty to match the truck.

How does it come off and does it lock?

There are two gas springs that aide in opening and closing. These have quick detach ends. Those come off and then there’s a heavy duty spring clip on one side of the cab side pin/hinge. The pull strap wraps around the folded up bundle and you lift out (aluminum panels). All-in-all, it takes about two minutes tops to remove.

The red circle in the picture is the lock. There is a deadbolt pin that locks into the installed rails on both sides preventing the cover from opening. With the tailgate locked, the bed is secure.

Oh that looks really nice! Was it a easy install ?

Install was about 90 minutes. This one and the one I had on my F150, I opted for the “Premium” package which include a no-drill clamp that clamps on the bed rails and a tailgate seal.

My first one on my F150 held up to about 12” of WET snow. It did try to open but I didn’t have it locked. With it locked, it would have held fine. The lock cover eventually broke off in cold weather on my old one but this cover feels like they changed the material a bit that holds up to cold a bit better.

They have their whole install on YouTube and in fact, the install guide shows a couple pictures and a QR code to the YouTube videos.

Interesting concept. I went with the factory soft tonneau for now. Down the road I may do something more secure and this looks like a good contender.

This looks nice. I did the factory three fold cover. I wanted the retractable, but I felt the loss of bed space up front would be a pain in butt for motorcycles.

This one gets down to about 6” or so but it’s super easy to remove to make room for motorcycles.

Something to be aware of for folks considering this is you can’t close the cover with anything pressed up against the open cover. Similarly you can’t open it if anything slides forward into the spot where the cover stows. Need to crawl underneath to clear the space.

It looks like a great cover otherwise, but those issues - caused by it folding down into the bed, with nothing protecting that space - keep it from being a consideration for me.

OP, didn’t want to be a downer I’m your thread and congrats on the install! Obviously you’ve had it before and knew what you were getting, but wanted to call out that pretty big downside of the design for those interested in it.

I find the soft cover very easy to deal with if I have to remove it, although, this is more of a short term solution for me. I watched the Youtube video on the Peragon and it looks simple to remove too. There are times where I need that extra little bit of height that the soft cover accommodates due to the bow from side to side from living with it on my F150. What is your clearance dimension (height) for cargo at the tailgate? Thank you.

You are absolutely correct and is the downside of this style. No problem calling that out and thanks!

Looks like about 21”

Thank you! That is actually better than I thought. Come to think of it I never actually measured mine... I will have to do that tomorrow - maybe I gained some height vs. the F150 and didn't realize it.

I’m almost certain the Super Duty bedsides are taller than the F150.

Similar in the rear which makes sense since it seals against the tailgate. Past that I get a bit over an inch added clearance. I swear my F150 was lower but when I look up the bed specs they are ~1/4" comparatively. First image is at the rear not including the bed mat. Second is one section back at max bow including the mat which is ~3/8" thick:

Overall I like the looks of the Peregon and will keep it in mind when I'm ready to upgrade. Thanks for the follow-up info!

For a moment I read "periscope" I was like hmm that's cool. Not
i beg to differ. A periscope would be amazing. I haven't put much thought into when i use it but it can't hurt to have one. And when you do use it, you'd say yep, glad i added this periscope (that everyone laughed at).

Oh it would be cool as you say, I was just saying not because I was thinking of the wrong thing. I think it would be cool to see past the car ahead of you if its blocking your view lol

I'm waiting for Ford to include a mini drone that deploys from the roof for traffic assessment. That would be cool! The next step in 360 view cameras!!
