It looks like we are upgrading our horse trailer from bumper to gooseneck. On my 24 F250 I had linex spray it in, they can drill through the bed to allow the gooseneck.

I had a few questions

1) I was looking at the Ford GN hitch since its removable, someone at our barn has that (his truck is 2017). I do like that option. Any other preferences that are removeable.
2) I had the trailer backup when I'm alone and backing up I could see rear. I can't seem to get an answer if you can do that in gooseneck setup.
3) I have the pro power onboard. I can't seem to get a straight answer out of local dealership if another outlet for the 7pin needs to be installed in the bed or if they convert one of those plugs. Plan on taking it up to the liner place tomorrow.

Also looking at wireless cameras.

Do you have the 360 camera package with the camera in the bed?

Ford Gooseneck kit is good as is the B&W kit. I’m running the Ford hitch kit in my truck. You can either drape the trailer power cord over the bed and plug into your bumper wiring receptacle or add one inside the bed.

I put a B&W in mine. You can flip it over to make it flat and they can add a 7pin connector in the bed (simple harness). My truck is a 24 and the onboard plug is on the passenger side and 7 pin is on the drivers side.
Chose your bed camera and hit the magnifying glass on the upper left and it will zoom in on the ball. Makes it super easy when alone.

Have it installed the same time as the bedliner.

I do have the 360 camera package. I was debating about the power to the bumper just feels like it should be to the bed.

Thanks good to know on the magnifier. First time I've dealt with goose neck. Bedliner is already done unfortunately did it when I got the truck late December.

I would go with the Ford GN hitch. Its integrated nicely and just arrives at your dealer ready to go. No down time for the truck and no potential drama installing aftermarket solution.

Congrats on the new horse trailer. Which make/model did you decide to go with?

Thanks! Looking to finalize an Elite Custom Weekender trailer. More for summer racing for my daughter who does barrel racing. Not doing anything water related just AC and place to sleep for 2-3 days races.

You can remove the Ford ball in the same time it takes to flip the B&W ball. I’ve had the B&W in previous trucks, and have had the ford ball in my last two. I don’t have a preference either way. Both are good options.

Thats awesome! Horses are a great family activity.

Im always happy to hear about kids/young adults doing something that doesn't involve anything with a screen lol
My mom would always say, best thing about being a parent to a horse girl is you never have to worry about boys... Horses always come first. I have found this to be the case!

We have been towing horse trailers for a while now. One of the greatest upgrades we did was going with an air ride hitch. I've singlehandedly sold a few of our Olympian dressage and jumper friends on some air ride hitches for their goosenecks. It really does make a difference for the humans and the 4 legged cohorts. After buying myself one and being blown away I decided to start selling. If you have a new trailer its the perfect time to consider -- plus they are on sale too!

Although we have the bumperpull and 5th wheel hitches on the website, I still need to get the gooseneck ones up there.

I’m fine with either.
Since it didn’t come with one I went B&W

I have towed both bumper pull and gooseneck trailers...both flatbed and horse trailers. IMO you will like the gooseneck much better than the bumper pull. First Choice would be the Ford OEM Gooseneck Prep Package and Ball Kit. Second Choice would be the B & W Gooseneck Hitch and Ball. I've used both and you cannot go wrong with either setup.

Elite makes a great horse trailer! Best Horse Trailers out there are Bloomer, 4 Star, Elite, Platinum. I did not list in order of preference, but the Bloomer does have a "Tongue and Groove" floor. I heard Elite was started by guys who previously worked at 4 Star. Platinum is the last one to market. I've always had 4 Star, but have looked at the others...all top-notch quality and would own any of the 4 listed. I have friends who have owned the other 3 brands.

Completely Agree - horses are a great family activity! I too have towed horse trailers for many years to several states for mounted shooting competitions. Horses are great to keep boys out of mischief...especially if you add a couple of Single Action Revolvers...aka - Six Shooters while riding! Mounted Shooting is probably the best overall horse related family and / or individual hobby.

EDIT: The Shocker Hitch is awesome!!! It's really incredible how that device smooths out the ride and definitely worth the price!

Interesting to hear. Being around big warmbloods for most of my life, the Bloomer's never really made an appearance as we typically arent around the western world, but I have always been interested in seeing them on the highway. They're always massive living quarters trailer with a five horse set up at the back, towed by some big F450 or converted semi. Very cool to see.

The english riding world is heavily filled with 4 Star and Cimarron. I have been really impressed with the Cimarron stuff. Also T&G floors with support beams every 4" on center. That said I am no expert and have not spent time around many of the other brands besides those two.

I see a ton of Logan coach trailers on the roads these days, but I really don’t know much about them.

Stoked to see some horse people on the forum!

I just went through this very same experience. I bought a (new to me) 2022 for hauling my daughter’s horse. I am not a rider, but enjoy show dad duties (carrying stuff, taking pictures/video, holding the horse, etc.) but the days can get long very quickly. Enter the perfect pairing with the Tremor - an SMC 3 horse slant with 9’ LQ. The only thing missing was the gooseneck in the tremor.

I have the Toughbed liner and went to my local Line-x to have a B&W turnover ball kit installed. Thanks to @HeavyAssault, I did get the correct in-bed wiring setup to complete the installation. I also opted for the 4” B&W gooseneck extender as my truck is a short bed. It all came together perfectly! With the trailer full of water and a horse (quarter horse), I still have close to 2” before the bump stop hits the rear springs.

I got the B&W kit from etrailer.com as it was the easiest to get everything in one order (free shipping and on sale). The in-bed wiring was from Levittownfordparts.com. The turnover ball can be removed/turned over and lets the bed be used when you aren’t towing. Not selling the B&W kit, just stating my experience. The safety chain connections do get very close to flat even with the liner.

My truck does have the pro trailer package but I have not spent the $$ for the integrated camera setup…yet.

Happy to send any pictures you’d like of the install. Install was incredibly clean and was $600.

Pictures would be awesome!

my cheat for lining up the goosneck
because
i have a job box in the way of the camera

i put a stop block (chock) behind my rear wheel when all hooked up. measured from the trailer footer(jack) to the block. the back side of my jack footer plate to the back of my stop block at the rear wheel is exactly 7ft. i use the bed camera center line to back up to the trailer. then line up to stop block, drop the tailgate, nail it first time e everytime.

i prefer the b&w to any hitch I've seen.
everything is right there, no bag of parts & pieces to keep up with & worry about where to store it.

good luck to your daughter with her barrell racing!!!!

First photo is from the passenger side. The second is driver side. I didn’t put the turnover ball in for the photos, but took the extender out (obviously). Let me know if you need any others.

I also have the Retrax tonneau cover. I don’t need to remove it for towing which is a huge help. I put the gooseneck directly on the bed when I first got the trailer (towing ball wasn’t installed yet) and grabbed some measurements over the bed rail. Easily have 7” of clearance with everything level so no worry of contact with bed or tonneau cover.

Last step is to grab a full weight distribution and the inner geek in me should be satisfied.

I like the offset balls on shortbeds.

@Arius1 by the way, the black shocker hitch I showed earlier in the thread offers 9" of offset which is super nice for the shortbeds. By putting the offset on the trailer side, you could run the factory location for the ball (either OEM or B&W Turnover) and then let the trailer do the offsetting.

Thanks, @gmoon! I thought I’d be happy with the 4” extender but now I’m looking at the shocker. My wallet says “thanks.” 🤣
