Funny thing happened on my road trip recently.

Yes. But there was play between the throttle body motor and the throttle plate. The TPS is attached to the plate, but the ECU controls the motor. The ECU thinks that X motor input = X throttle position. When they are out of sync, so are your fuel/spark tables.
That is great to know. Thanks a bunch! Will that show up as a code error?

It is but there is still a plate and a position sensor. The plate is controlled by an electric motor and positioned based on feedback from the electric switch on the accel pedal, VCT position, and the TPS. It doesn't strictly follow the commanded position from the pedal like when there was a cable.

Short story is there can be issues between the TPS, actual plate position, and pedal position that creates an issue.
That is crazy complicated. When I get back to SD, I'm gonna tell Ford all this. Problem, I'm currently 400miles from home hoping to get home tomorrow.

Def sounds like a throttle body issue. Especially if the truck went to zero power but continued to idle and OP didn't need to mess with his security device.

Did go to zero power but wasn't idling. Once I came to a complete stop, I had to place in park and restart. My screen and accessories never turned off.

Sounds like the truck might've went into some sort of limp mode.

What do you mean wasnt idling, when you came to a stop what was it doing, was the idle bouncing?

Agreed

Agreed with limp mode. As far as idling, once the I got the truck stopped, the engine shut off but I never lost my power steering or brake. My truck never completely shut down. There was still power to my accessories.

There's a good chance the TC stayed locked and just force the motor to continue turning lol. When I scattered the guts on my 2013 Ecoboost I was at 80 mph and it wasnt until I dropped to a certain speed that the truck unlocked the TC and downshifted and stopped spinning the motor. Man, crap when everywhere lol.

The problem is that the truck started again without me having to touch the plug.

That doesn’t matter. Happened exactly the same way with me. It momentarily lost contact and that was enough.

Your other symptoms line up too: “ My screen and accessories never turned off.”

It happened just like that with me. So i 1. Cleaned inside the ravelco plug with a q-tip and continue to do so regularly and 2. Don’t hang any 💩 on the plug. Problem never happened again.

I have a 2022 250 7.3. With cruise control activated and going about 75mph. Started to climb a little grade. Suddenly I lost all power. No lights came on on the dash. Pulled over to the side of the road. Came to a complete stop. Turned off the truck and turned back on. Started up like nothing happened. It did it two more times on my trip. Decided to drive with the the cruise control off and it never happened again. Any ideas?
Had the same thing happen last weekend in 103* weather, going up a grade with 5 people in the truck and a bed full of camping gear.

Pull codes, attached are mine. My CEL only came on briefly as I was using my OBD2 tool to clear codes.

I pulled over, cleared the codes, turned off the AC, and the truck seem to run fine after that. I took it to a shop where they plugged in and the only thing they could find was an occasional misfire from 1, 5, and 6. I'm thinking either plug wires or coils. Doubt it has anything to do with adaptive cruise control. Haven't had a chance to take it to Ford yet.

This is great advice for those with a Ravelco plug. I have not had issues with mine in almost 3 years, but my plug has nothing connected to it. This makes it easier (less bulky) to carry in my pocket when I am traveling with the truck.

I actually have a dust cover from @legmar to protect/keep the Ravelco pins clean. Works like a champ!

Mine came with the cover for the inside socket, but as you know it is the exact diameter of the plug. I have never used it in my truck, but your idea might be a good way to keep the plug clean.

By the way, this is my spare plug (third) which is why it is on a ring I keep in my safe.

FYI, you can also try running your regular cruise rather than adaptive. I don't have adaptive on my SuperDuty, but on our Toyota, when you activate cruise, it is a single press to turn on adaptive, but a long press passed adaptive and turns on regular cruise. I image the SuperDuty is similar. Would be some good data to see if similar happens again by not using adaptive (although, truck shutting down in traffic is not safe, so maybe do this test only on those stretches where it's safer to do so). To make the test valid, you'll not want to change too many things at once or you'll never know what it was. If you re-seat your ravelco plug, for example, to ensure good pin contact, then you won't know if it was that or adaptive. Test one thing at a time, so maybe reseat ravelco and if it does it again on adaptive, then switch to regular cruise control and see if it happens again. Then if it happens again, go on down the line of those potential causes.

Love it! Thanks for sharing!!

Happy to answer any questions about them! For my forum friends, I’d be happy to make you a custom color too if you send me a message. 😎

Quick update. Just completed my 400 mile return trip home. Although exhausting, I drove the complete return trip without cruise control. No problems what-so-ever. Taking it to Ford tomorrow. I'll keep you updated.
