Ford is sharing this data with insurance companies, depending on what you may or may not have agreed to.

  • Driving Characteristics, such as speed, use of accelerator, brakes, steering, seat belts, and other similar information about how the vehicle is used.

I did not realize this. Soon as my ford pass points are gone, I will be deleting it. More info below.

....I never agreed to any of this from Ford. I already spoke to them about it to voice my displeasure with the program and how it is getting used.

"Auto maker Ford recently launched a smart phone app that connects to its Ford SYNC App Link platform which gives consumers the option to share driving data and have their behavior rated by participating insurance providers. A higher score reflects better driving behavior."
Ford offers app that provides insurance discounts for good driving

**** this bullshit. Once normalized, insurance lobbyists will push for legislation that in essence, mandates the forwarding of certain driving data so that they can weed out "bad drivers."

So if you don't use the app will the vehicle still record stuff and send it to ford?

Guess I’m going to get a free oil change or two and then find a way to kill it. Seems like if they really want to capture data and send it to the insurance company they don’t need our phones but could do it directly

From my knowledge, yes as long as your truck is registered on it. Someone recommended a master reset on Sync3 as well a possible reset on the TCM just to verify Ford not tracking your vehicle anymore.

I think the phone is a way to get your authorization on tracking you and your habits. GM has been doing this for years with on star, and progressive insurance does this with there module.

I wish I had taken a screenshot before I deleted it. I got a message about turning the feature on to link data for insurance purposes. I got the impression that unless I opted in specifically I was opted out.

I agree insurance tracking is BS if you don't have a choice. Will have to gather more info now.

Not that I give a rip that they want to know where I go and how I do it but "NO THANKS" I avoid the dealership service department ( only if warranty or a recall that I deem necessary ).

Now that I’ve read this thread, I’ll get my points, buy some accessories, and ditch that shit immediately thereafter. There’s enough Big Brother out there as it is, I don’t need to be making it any easier on them by volunteering anything extra. Now that I’m thinking about it, I may not sign up at all. ?

I used this to my advantage with Nationwide, got 40% discount of insurance. ?‍♂️
We should be getting 40% discount for no tickets and no accidents, they don't need to know I'm 1 or 16 mph over at 2 in the morning when theres no cars around for 10 miles. My opinion of course....

Well Nationwide tracked 4 things and speed wasnt one of them. Miles driven, Idle time, Night time driving, and hard brake/Acceleration.

Yeah I don't like the idea of selling personal privacy for discounts. I don't care how much the discount is they dont need to know my personal habits.

This is why stronger data privacy laws are so important. So consumers get more rights with what company’s can and can’t do.

Benjamin Franklin said something like... ,”Those who would give up essential Liberty or Privacy, to purchase a little temporary Safety or Gain an insurance discount, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety nor said insurance discount.”
