The other day after installing one of the amp bedstep2s I tried it out and noticed something that did not make any sense to me.
On the backside of the cab there is a panel of material that looks like a felt pad ~1/4" thick that spans almost the width of the cab and not sure how far down. It sits about an inch below the height of the bed.
Any idea what it is for? Is it just on the surface or does it pass through into the cab. Just an odd material to have outside exposure. Initially I thought it may be an assembly aid to keep the bed from banging into the cab but the placement is off.

Looks like a sound deadening mat. I noticed it on mine as well. I like what they did there with the mats and rubber seals to fill the gap.

The mat holds water. Next thing I'll see is moss growing on it lol. There is no rubber seals there.
From left to right it's the front weather seal for the undercover tonneau cover then the bedliner on the top edge of the front bed rail then there is th he gap between the bed and cab followed by the "mat" then the painted cab then the glass window with the reflection of all that other stuff mentioned.

Everything I’ve read says this is for vibration or sound deadening...lots of chatter on F150 forums about this losing adhesion and having to be corrected by the dealer (need to remove bed for complete repair).

Weird- my '16 F150 doesn't have that and it is still quiet as a church mouse. Sometimes Ford does not have a better idea.

I dont have that on a 21', I am thinking it might be temporary protection while assembly and they didn't remove it.

Seal goes down the sides. Its the quarter round element near the bottom of the photo. There for air flow and wind noise.

It’s on mine, assumed it’s for sound deadening

My ‘21 had something similar View attachment 19796
Great photo of it. So it does not go all the way across or cover the whole back. I would have preferred something like dynamat applied from the inside but it is what it is. Perhaps the aluminum body has some odd resonance and Ford had to stop it from the outside.
So, why did you have the bed off? Adding a 5th wheel frame support?

You got it, they had the bed off, the 5th wheel crossmember mounted, and the bed back on with the holes cut in under an hour. Never seen anything like it in my life haha.
