Many of you may not know the full history of the Ford Tremor nameplate so I figured it would be great to do a write up on all the different versions that Ford has made of the Tremor.

Ranger Tremor

In 2002 Ford gave us the first Tremor, this is the truck you probably don't know about. Instead of this truck being a street truck package or offroad package it was actually a sound system upgrade. The Tremor package consisted of a 485-watt Pioneer sound system, 10-inch sub woofer, new head unit with CD player, cassette player and AM/FM radio which was rather impressive for the time. To power all of this the Tremor came with an upgraded alternator, but wait there's more! The Tremor was available in Chrome Yellow, black or Sonic Blue and included 5 spoke wheels, white faced gauges and the all important bedside decal, the Tremor was also offered in style side or flare side bed configurations. Ford built 6,000 Tremors in 2002. At the time the MSRP for a Tremor like this was around $21,000

F-150 Tremor

For the 2013 and 2014 model year Ford produced the F-150 Tremor which was an awesome street truck package based on the 12th generation F-150. The Tremor was only available as a regular cab/short bed configuration and it came with the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 mated to 6 speed automatic which wasn't available on a non Tremor regular cab/short bed. The Tremor made 365 HP and 420 LB-FT of torque, impressive numbers for a smaller truck but was sadly not as powerful as the second gen Lightning from 1999-2004. The Tremor package was available as a FX2 or FX4 which made it possible to make it an offroader with it's 4x4 and locking rear differential. On the appearance side of things, the Tremor got some very retro graphics which are nicknamed "hockey sticks." It wouldn't be a tremor without the bed decal and it is there in a new font, there was also a set of 6 spoke matte black 20" wheels. On the inside the Tremor featured a sporty interior with raptor-ish seats with suede and cool red accents and a 40/20/40 center console with console shifter. The 13/14 Tremor was not very popular since it didn't wasn't as powerful as a lightning and didn't feature many performance differences over a regular F-150 however it has since been rather collectible as Ford only made a couple thousand. It was also pretty expensive for what it offered at around $40,000 to $46,000 new.

Super Duty Tremor

In summer of 2019 Ford released a random video showing the all new Tremor for 2020. The Tremor has grown over the years from Ranger to F-150 so the next step was Super Duty. This time around Ford made it into an offroad truck. Many people thought it would be a Super Duty version of a Raptor but it was a slow speed offroader instead which was more suited for mud and rocks. The Tremor package was available on F-250 and F-350 trucks in most trim levels including XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum with two engine options both of which were new for 2020. The standard engine is the all new 7.3L Godzilla V8 which churned out 430 HP and 475 LB-FT of torque. For over $8,000 more you could step up to the new 3rd generation 6.7L diesel V8 that produced a massive 475 HP and 1,050 LB-FT. The Tremor package included matte black painted XLT wheels wrapped with 285/75/18 Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. Tremor also featured a limited slip front differential, upgraded axle vent tubes, smaller chin spoiler, longer front springs, larger rear spring block, upgraded Tremor branded shocks, smaller diameter sway bar and raptor style running boards. Can't forget the new bed decals too! For 2021 the Tremor remains unchanged. So far the Super Duty Tremor has been very popular and will continue to be since it offers better offroad capability than a GMC AT4 and doesn't have the compromises of a Ram Power Wagon. Pricing for the package is $3,975 and the MSRP for Tremor equipped trucks ranges from $55k-$85k.

Ranger Tremor, Again!

In September of 2020 Ford once again released a video showing the new member of the Tremor family, the 2021 Ranger Tremor. Based on the current Ranger the Tremor package follows Fords intentions of making an offroad capable truck without hindering its work and on-road capabilities. The new Tremor features Fox 2.0 shocks with piggy back reservoirs in the rear along with specifically tune coil springs and leaf springs. it also includes new wheel lip moldings, Raptor look alike wheels with General Grabber ATX tires, 6 aux switches, skid plates, Magnetic painted exterior parts, optional hood and side graphics, Miko suede seats with Tremor logo and rear tow hooks. The Tremor package is $4,290 and can be added to XLT or Lariat trim levels, however the truck must be a crew cab short bed configuration. The Ranger Tremor is starting to reach dealers as of 3/21

Possible 2021 F-150 Tremor?

2021 F-150 was spotted driving around in its camouflaged bodywork featuring lifted suspension and General Grabber tires that suggests a new Tremor is coming.

F-150 Tremor Returns!

On 12/8/20 Ford officially announced the new 2021 F-150 Tremor. This time around it is it's own trim level instead of optional package like on the Ranger and Super Duty. The new Tremor has more goodies than its predecessors including: Raptor skid plates, Raptor/Tremor running boards, unique grill with orange accents, unique Raptor styled wheels, unique hood with vents reminiscent of gen 1 Raptors, Tremor logos on seats with orange stitching, orange interior accents, Tremor carpeted floor mats, Tremor fender vents, 33" General Grabber tires, Tremor branded shocks, standard rear diff lock, optional front Torsen limited slip diff from Raptor (late availability), Raptor transfer case with 4 wheel auto mode, retuned springs, revised spindles and upper control arms, dual rear exit exhaust, front and rear tow hooks, 6 overhead auxiliary switches, trail control, trail turn assist, rock crawl mode and hill descent control. The Tremor F-150 is supposedly a $4,000 upgrade. This sounds like a great deal for what is included and is basically a Raptor without the cool body work and over the top suspension. This means the Tremor is capable of doing more work than a Raptor while still being capable offroad. The F-150 Tremor is still a 2021 model and will be available in Summer 2021. Sadly, the Tremor only comes with the 3.5L EcoBoost V6. While power is plentiful it does not offer the reliability and sound of a V8. It is also not available as a hybrid despite having the same engine. The Tremor also only comes as a Crew Cab, Short Bed configuration which is also not ideal for some. A long bed option would have been nice. Hopefully the the rest of the package can overcome its lack of engine and body style options.

Let me know if I missed something or made a mistake, hope you enjoyed this look into the history of Ford Tremor.

I remember the 13-14 Tremor being a big disappointment. So many people wanted it to be the SVT Lightning, but it was such a flop.
They could have just offered a 5.0 in it and the sales would go way up. Still a cool truck especially since they are so rare. A guy in my neighbor hood has a white one and he took off all the graphics and put on decals for his company since he uses it as a work truck. I think he's crazy?

Thank you for the history. I keep thinking “why didn’t they name them T-REX”. Another dinosaur name like Raptor.
I’m guessing because Ram already has the Rebel TRX (T-Rex) already.

EDIT: Added in the 2021 F-150 Tremor.

Great write up.

Still confused as to why Ford keeps using the name every few years for models that have nothing to do with - sound- speed- Offroad ???

seems a bit lazy.

Trex would have been the logical step up to the super duty configuration from the Raptor but they not only let Ram snatch it up but they also used the name to clown the Raptor.

next gen Tremor package will need more Ford performance input. It will either fadeaway like the other Tremor versions or will become as nondescript as an FX4 package across every Fseries

I agree, ram has had TRX nameplate for many years, its like a modern day tremor but from ram over 10 years ago. Right now its a great idea but they messed it up with no offering the other configurations people want. They need to sell more units if they want it to survive. They are clearly pushing hard with the F150.

Id like to think that the 2005 FX4 Hoss Edition that some dudes at Ford tossed together had some sort of influence on the current Super duty Tremors. From what I remember it had some lockers, a slight lift, tires and a winch. Even had the rear fenders trimmed with a high clearance bumper

Wow, I've never even heard of that!
