Hi, I'm a newbie to Superduty trucks. I am coming from a f150, and ordering a F350. Salesman told me it is standard with 11,300 GVWR. What does this mean for registration in NY? Trying to sort through the DMV website, but their info is all over the place and contradicts itself. Do I have to register this as a Commercial vehicle? Do I need a DOT number? Am I going to be pulled into scales?
This is going to be used as a family truck for trips, and leisure, moving small items when needed, Home depot, etc. I will also use it for moving DJ gear occasionally, but that is very minimal....couple hundred pounds in the bed. It will not have business names or anything like that on the truck. Should I select the 10,000/9900 GVWR option?

Please help and forgive my ignorance on this.

Welcome to the Tremor Forum! You've come to the right place for Super Duty Tremor information. This is a well discussed topic in numerous threads on the forum. Take some time to do some queries comparing F250 and F350. These are the threads that discuss in detail the topic of load ratings and regs in various states. I'm not familiar with NY DMV regs. @Iron Man and others are from NY and may be able to help with specifics. ?

I assume you are talking about the 7.3 engine? Because the 6.7 standard is 11,500 GVWR. I'm aware NY and CA have strange rules, so do be careful. You can derate on your order, but I thought the derate was 11,300 GVWR on the 7.3 and the 6.7 derates to 11,400. So hopefully other NY folks will chime in. I don't know NY laws. And one more thing. If you are getting the 7.3, why not get an F250? The F350 is really needed for the 6.7 since it weighs so much more.

The F250 and F350 are identical!

You won’t have to worry about DOT numbers or getting pulled into the scales. I could go down a rabbit hole, but i won’t let myself. Lol
You’ll just be another pick up truck driving around.
Your truck will have commercial plates, but that doesn’t change the registration fees on a pick up truck. No matter if it was Registered passenger or commercial, you still will pay commercial fee

Im on long island im waiting for my 250 tremor ive had a ram 2500 deisel with commercial plates i used it for same purpose as you no dot stickers required My neighbor has a 350 tremor deisel he has commercial plates I’ll inquire but i don’t believe he needed any dot stickers . But youll definitely Need commercial plates.

In NY any pickup weighing 6,000lbs or more gets commercial plates. So any f250 or f350. If you put a full cap on the truck bed with windows you can reregister it with passenger plates. But the fee is the same.

Ok, but then what is the purpose of the 10,000/9900 option on Fords website (when building the truck)?

I believe it also needs to be permanently attached
