For those with the 7.3 ltr engine, what are your engine running temps, and idle temps.

Mine
Running - 185-195F
Idle: 178-185F
Average outside temp: 85-90F

Anyone?

I was curious to see what others Temps are.

I am focusing on fuel curves. I know Ford has programmed the 7.3ltr to trend rich with the intention of producing max HP while staying within federal emissions specs.

I am considering installing a hotter Tstat and see what happens to the trend (I monitored it using forscan and a Fluke oscilloscope) and will do the same if I change out the tstat.

This is the easiest thing to do to alter the fuel mapping without going into the grid and altering the mapping.

Mine is 180-190°F, depending on where it is in the opening/closing cycle.

Ford's not gonna drastically change the mapping for 10F of coolant change from nominal. Maybe if it was pushed up to 220°F+ or down to 160°F. They might move to a .0.9 or 0.95 equivalence ratio (lambda), but ignition timing will have as much or more of an impact here. No idea what their strategy is for timing at hot temps... could go either way.

I was pretty consistent at 187, but changed to a 5 star tuning 93 octane tune and see swings from 180-195. That threw me a little bit, but seeing what you are running, makes me a little more comfortable.

185-195F during normal driving... Highway speeds, 70+mph is usually 185-192F, 194F if climbing a hill for a while in hot weather.

Towing 11k lb 5th wheel RV, usually sits 192-194F, as well.

Any coasting for a long duration from highway speeds it will drop down as low as 178F or so... If oil temp is already quite hot, it doesn't drop below about 180F or so.

Pulling my 11k lb 5th wheel up Monarch Pass (7% grade for 7 miles) it peaked at 216F, but spent a lot of time between 212-214F... Never dropped below 3800rpm the whole way up the pass, and pretty much averaged between 40-50mph the whole way up.

Crawling at 2-5mph up steep hills on forest roads, or climbing up Imogene Pass, I saw as high as 212F without a trailer... Fan clutch seems to start locking up more at 210F and will bring temps back down to 204F where it seems to disengage a bit.

Great info will be sharing my temps when i get my truck and put some mileage on it.
