What is the slippery drive mode, nothing addresses this in the owners manual, but cycling thru the different drive modes there it is

Haven't used it yet, but biggest difference is allowed wheel slip. It will free up the traction control some to allow more wheel slip, though not disable it entirely. Also adjusts throttle mapping to be less sensitive IIRC so you can be more gentle with the throttle.

Edit: Welp. I'm moving too quickly tonight lol. Biggest difference is the throttle response. Doesn't seem to do anything for traction control, but does adjust shifting. Likely to be smoother in some way to not break traction.

Here's a description of the modes in the Bronco, which are almost certainly identical to the general strategy for other Ford vehicles for the ones that carry over:

Hummm, a good explanation & it sounds good to me & it sounds like it’s not tied into the 4x4 system as it can be used in RWD only

All these different modes make my head hurt, what ever happened to put into 4x4 and go drive mode & then low range when needed

Wonder why it was left out of the manual and/or if it’s a newer addition Ford slipped in,

Don’t need to use the modes if you don’t want to. Can just leave it in normal and go in and out of 4x4 as needed. :D

Don’t think it’s overly new? Not 22MY new, anyways.

Manual says:

DRIVE CONTROL (IF EQUIPPED) Selectable Drive Modes
The system delivers a driving experience through a suite of sophisticated electronic vehicle systems. These systems optimize steering, handling and powertrain response. This provides a single location to control multiple system's performance settings.
Changing the drive mode automatically changes the functionality of the following systems:
• Electronic stability control and traction control maintains your vehicle control in adverse conditions or high-performance driving.
• Electronic throttle control enhances the powertrain response to your inputs.
• Transmission controls are optimized with shift schedules tuned to each terrain.

That is not from the MY22 F-250 owners manual

No reason that you can’t still do this. We have a 5th gen 4runner with all of the off road modes and assists. I’ve never used them once. I reach down and throw the lever into 4WD and go. (Damn I love throwing an actual lever).

Oddly enough we had winter here in Los Angeles yesterday and it rained and I put it into slippery like I always did in my Raptor. I noticed ZERO change in anything from normal. Maybe it's just a 4x4 thing? who knows. I have a 22 and there is nothing in the manual about it.

First snow here this morning. I use slippery mode regularly in the snow on the roads. It definitely changes throttle response but I can still spin the wheels without trying (diesel). It just helps you not break free initially unless you get on it a little. A little icy and almost an inch of snow on the roads this morning.
