Hey folks. I’m looking into ordering a Tremor within the next month or so. This would be my first new vehicle purchase, so I am learning as I go...definitely glad I found this forum! I talked with one of my local dealers the other day about the ordering process. He mentioned that they like a $1000 deposit before doing a special order. Is this pretty common?

I definitely want to order one to make sure I get the color/options I want. I would usually have no issues with a deposit, but the only hesitation I have is with the current truck supply issues and how slow things are moving these days. I’d hate to order it next month and then it be mid summer getting to me. My luck, by then they would’ve announced that they were updating the 2022 MY trucks or something, and I’d be stuck with a deposit on 2021.

Also, any other advice for a new vehicle newbie is welcomed.

My dealer required a $1000 deposit. It seems reasonable to me so they have some assurance that you will actually buy what they ordered for you.

Like they would have a hard time selling it if you refused it?
Well, maybe if it was pink.

I have ordered 3 trucks over the years. I have found ordering the truck in August, allows you to order the next model year. Taking delivery sometime around Thanksgiving. I ordered my 2021 Tremor Last day of August 2020, and it arrived the day before Thanksgiving. I gave a deposit on the first truck I ordered from my dealer back in 2007; by now, they trust I will execute, and no longer charge me a deposit. It is typical to charge $500 to $1000 to place the order. That being said, most TREMORS are getting over sticker, I would ask the dealer, what are the chances if I do not execute your being "stuck" with the truck.. negotiate the deposit a bit this way.

$500 is the most I would give. Ca the deposit is refundable by law. I put $100 down many others put nothing down.

Picked up my Tremor today the dealer wanted a $500 deposit when I order it 2 months back. It was fully refundable and he even stated that today when he told me to look it over, drive it, and see if I still want the truck. My personal opinion is anything more than $500 is a little excessive unless you order some odd spec that would be hard to sell. Trucks are a high demand item and dealers only get so many super duties and from what I know an ordered super duty doesn't count against the allocations of non ordered trucks. So the dealer is getting one more extra vehicle than what they normally would get even if you don't buy it.

I did not have to put down a deposit but the sales manager is my best friend from highschool

Like some of the others have stated I have a relationship with the dealership I ordered the truck from. I have purchased two new vehicles from them and leased a few as well over the past 10 or so years. This is the first vehicle I ordered and when I asked about a deposit the salesman said with my history they do not need one. I ordered a fully loaded KR - Tremor (Rapid Red).

only had to do $500 down for my $80k truck

I had a $0 deposit at my dealer. They knew they could sell it easily if I backed out. And I've bought 2 other vehicles from them prior.

My dealer laughed when I asked him if he needed a deposit. Said he would sell it for more than my deal in a day if I backed out.

$500 tops

If you have a good relationship with the Dealership then 0

some buyers feel good about a financial commitment and thats ok.

It isn't like the $1000 is gonna go POOF!

I put a thousand down. My dealer told me it was not necessary but Secured my order if that greedy bastard tries to sell it for more money. I would order sooner then later. I think tremors take longer to get put into the system. So it will take longer to get.

I put $500 down when I ordered mine. The screwed up the order on the first one and had to reorder it again. When the first one came in it sold the first week.

My dealer said, and I quote. "I will bring it in, if you are not ready for it I'll just sell it, no big deal."
