Does anybody know why there would be a clicking noise coming from steering column when pressing brake pedal? Only does it when in park. Brakes work well though. Just a noise.

weird...there is a TSB on brake calipers.....

I just noticed this same sound on my 24. It sounds and feels like a relay actuating. It clicks at the very top of the pedal motion and does not do it when the car is off. I almost always have the radio on but this morning did not. Now that i hear it i cannot ignore it. It is loud like a KUEP contact. I assume it is for brake lights….

Anyone else have this?

That's the Shift Interlock Solenoid working as designed. It will not allow the shift lever to be moved out of park unless your foot is pushing down on the brake pedal (the very first amount of pressure you apply to the pedal will activate the solenoid).

I can play mine (and many other vehicles) like the intro to AC/DC Back in Black. Most people don't notice it because it a natural reflex to get in, put your foot on the brake pedal and start the vehicle.

Safety feature on all vehicles nowadays (probably for the last 25'ish years).

Short explanation of how it works: The solenoid can detect whether the brakes are engaged by working with the brake light switch, which detects when the driver is pressing on the brakes. When the brake light switch is activated, then the shift interlock solenoid pulls out the rod that locks the gear lever

Outstanding detailed explanation my friend.

My first car with remote start so it makes sense that since i am applying the brake afte running i hear it vs applying brake to start it then immediately to a gear. Awesome answer.

It seems like it makes this noise even in drive and while driving, not just in park. I will double check later when i get home.

my '24 does it, so did my '20 and my '17. it is rather annoying. these are the only trucks i have noticed it in

Just noticed this this morning. I haven’t heard the sound before. Is everyone’s this loud and audible when in park?

Is yours as loud as what is heard in my video?

Yeah I didn’t think it is normal. Can slightly even feel a tap in the steering wheel/column.
Completely normal on my '22. It's the solenoid that unlocks the column shifter so it can be shifted.

How come i never heard it on my 22 and now 23, is it completely normal but some don’t make the noise?

Most likely due to the way the solenoid is constructed. In a production mode, there is likely slop in the mechanism. Some may make more noise than others. My 22 is certainly this loud and I just got used to it, until I read this column. :ROFLMAO:

Crazy. I swear I never heard it before
Every '17-22 truck I've driven has it. It's how it works.
