I ordered a ‘22 in early April... I know I can add and remove options for a bit since no VIN has been assigned, but does anyone know if I can move trim levels, or will that be a new order/losing my place in line? Dealers aren’t open until Tuesday but was curious before I lose sleep over it.

I’m really thinking of changing from the xlt premium to a lariat value package. That 12” screen, better audio, vented seats, better looking grill, painted door handles, and leather wheel with 60w option seem like a no brainer. Haha.

I was able to change my original order about a month after placing. Changed from a lariat fx4 to a lariat tremor and also swapped colors. Dealer said I still have same place in line which is anyone’s guess.

I believe that as long as a VIN number is not assigned you can change it. I went from a 250 to a 350 about a month into my order.
I love my Lariat and would highly recommend you upgrade from the XLT. My only regrets so far is that I didn't do the carpet delete and order the winch.

Awesome!. Thanks for the response. I will definitely make the switch Tuesday morning. I have the carpet delete on the xlt, and will get it on the lariat. My wife told me to just order what I really want, so I’ll add the 360 camera, rapid cab heat, upfitters, clearance lights, and leave off the floor mats, wheel well liners, and spray in liner to offset the additional cost a little... I’ll just have that all lined up when it arrives.

I can tell you quite definitively that even AFTER the VIN has been created, they can make some changes. It's all about their willingness to do so. My dealer gave me a VIN and I was still able to remove the "de-rate" option that was placed on my order. Granted, my change request was simply a $0 option that they had to remove, but it did change the VIN's 4th digit when they did that. According to my dealer, it required special intervention from some Ford representative, but it got done. Obviously my truck was still awaiting assembly when this happened. Bottom line: Don't give up hope if they tell you a VIN was created. They still might be able to make changes.

Well I had the dealership change my order up to a Lariat... got the email confirmation from Ford, but I have a strange feeling that they put it through as a new order and probably cancelled my original order... losing my original place in line. Oh well. I guess we’ll see when I get a build date. Regardless, I’m glad I made the switch and even if it takes a little longer to get, I’ll be happier.

You made the right call. The Lariat is a no brainer over the XLT Premium.

for sure! I added the ultimate trailer system to get the 360 cameras... decided to ditch the spray in liner and have it done locally as well. Surprisingly it came out to not much more than the xlt premium. I can’t wait

Hopefully that's not the case but if it is, you'll forget all about it after you take delivery. You made the right choice in my opinion. LOVE my Lariat. I've had XLTs in the past and it's no comparison.

Good move!
When I changed mine from a 350 down to a 250, the dealer printed me out a new preview order sheet. Did you get a copy of the original? If so, the order code should be the same on both sheets if it was just a modification and not a brand new order. Maybe someone can correct me if I’m wrong on this? Hopefully this will give you peace of mind that your place in line hasn’t been lost. We are all patiently waiting!!!

Good call! Yep it’s a different order number. I see what they did now. I suspect they want that original truck as well so they put through the lariat change in as a new order... kind of a slime ball move considering I put money down to order it, so they should have changed the original order. Oh well, guess I’ll just wait a little longer and save more money to put down. Haha
