At first I thought it looked hokey but the more I looked the better it looked. Most cat thieves use cordless recip saws. You would have a hard time cutting those stainless cables with one. A cordless grinder with a cutoff blade would do it but you might need a blade change or two and now we're talking more time and noise. $700 ain't cheap but it's a lot cheaper than a new cat plus exhaust.

A good 2 minute vid:

Those break-off bolts look great at least until you need legit exhaust work done!

Wow

I am seeing more and more cat protection items and ideas, Is this something I should be worried about? won't insurance cover that claim??

Right now I keep in a locked garage and don't go to sketchy places and Smith & Wesson is on the case.

Well, anywhere outside your garage is some level of sketchy these days, isn't it? There are meth heads everywhere. My biggest concern
is being out in the boondocks and coming back from a hike to an
un-driveable rig.

I've never known anyone personally that had a Cat stolen. Interesting idea though, those chains.

After looking at my cat/exhaust I’m thinking most meth heads will look for something easier. That bracket welded to the cat is definitely gonna slow them down!

No meth heads in my area. We have wild animals feast on them, most of my neighbors are hunters as well as pig farmers.:sneaky::sneaky::sneaky:

Expensive device. What does a new cat cost Compared to the price of that?

It is the inconvenience of it that concerns him.

$700 for the device vs $1500-2000 depending on collateral damage plus it could be life threatening being stuck out in the middle of nowhere. I'm not greatly concerned by that but there is an increasing amount of crime at remote trailheads. I could survive most anywhere but my wife might very well not.

I guess if you’re stuck in in the middle of nowhere that would suck. I‘ve read that it has been happening more and more lately.

A well publicized one was a couple had their car broken into at a trailhead in north central WA. They were on a week long hike. The perps took the registration and drove 250 miles to their home in Olympia and took their sweet time burglarizing the place. The assholes effed up their car too.

Locks only keep the honest ones out. The only way to keep something out of the hands of a thief is to carry it in your pocket... 5 minutes on you tube and a crook can learn how to defeat anything.
