Seeing the post about first aid kits made me think about bug out bags. How many of you guys keep a bug out bag? If you do, show us what you are working with.

Haha, man after my own heart!
Wife was cleaning out the spare bedroom a couple weeks back...found 2 cases of 7.62 Golden Tiger under the bed, I had placed there because my other storage spot was full, I had forgot all about it...I might have went on a binge back when you get for $250 a case and free shipping.

Do you really want me to show what I'm working with because it may bug some people 🤪

I can totally relate, might have done the same in the past!

I can totally relate. I have around 1,000 rounds of 00 12ga buckshot that I got when prices were ridiculously cheap and have sat on them ever since as I never do anything that requires those rounds. Maybe one day I'll find a good or fun way to use them, or find someone who does that wants to buy them off me. Until then, they take up space in a closet

I thought about it, especially when I was living in CA and wanted to have stuff ready for whenever a major earthquake hit so I could get family and get to some place safe. Instead, I went with the hunker down approach and had enough emergency water and food on hand to take care of us for up to 12 weeks. Figure that would be long enough to figure out what the situation was and whether or not more extreme measures for survival would be needed. Since moving to TX, I haven't re-supplied the rations (the last ones I bought were the "best tasting", but expensive and they were close to the expiration date when we moved. I just tossed them because I wasn't going to eat MREs for 3 months. Same with the emergency water (boxes with mylar bags filled with sterilized water). I dumped them and haven't replaced them. Our current home doesn't have a great place to store stuff like that so if I got a place with a good size workshop (ideally climate controlled or a basement that doesn't get too hot or damp), I'd likely go back to planning for the zombie apocalypse again.

Have a bug out bag the stays in the truck. Figure 48-72 hours whole goal is get home. Water in a pouch, tuna in a pouch, spam, pilot biscuits, knife M9, and SOG leather man, Kershaw folding knife. no med gear separate bag in truck. Lots of practice packing essentials with hiking and mountain climbing back ground. And of course the XDM pistol on my person.

I keep what I would consider to be about a 48 hour bag by the door. Some canned food and protein bars, some misc camping supplies and first aid gear, spare clothes, etc.
And of course you should never go anywhere without a fireman's axe, a halligan and a 40" shovel.

I carry a Get Home Bag…. Bug out for me would be a very very very last resort in which case here is my bug out “bag”

Get home bag is a real thing though, stays with me most all the time. Just an old Camelbak Mother Load loaded with enough odds and ends to get me home from my normal around town/ work travels. When I venture farther my kit shifts a little bit. Bottom line if SHTF, I wanna be home.

Being an Overlander is a REAL good cover for being a Prepper 😉

Funny story about a Get home bag, when I met my wife she kept the equivalent in her car all the time…. She didn’t call it that, it just made sense to her to be a little prepared. That’s one of the many ways I knew she was the one for me!

No bug out but a get home bag is stashed. The usual stuff needed…first aid, food, fire making, paracord, ammo, booze (for antiseptic purposes), early 90’s “reading material” with a bunny on the front…for educational purposes. Necessities, ya know. Oh yeah, ditched the mags for a solar powered cell phone charger and some flashlights. I have a more comprehensive list if anyone cares. And can grab some pictures for those interested.

I’ve had “Ditch bags” in all of my boats for decades. Then had a few made up for the various RV’s. I always take my carry sling bag when I leave the house so that’s always with me. The kids (when they were kids) all grew up with seeing one attached to me wherever we went. Now when I visit their homes (out of respect for them and their homes) they automatically hang it on the hook they installed in my special place for it so I know where it’s always at no matter where I’m at. Every one of them grew up respecting it and I never once had to deal with any of them messing around with it. Even these days, when a couple of them carry their own, they still treat mine with the same respect they grew up with.

As far as its contents goes, extra mags, cuffs, flex cuffs, alt holster, SOG multi tool, custom first aid kit, extra supply of meds, cell battery booster, extra usb/c cable, Streamlight pocket light, ACR pocket strobe light (marine), wipes in a ziplock, a couple wash rags that double for helping to conceal what is inside, and one of the most important items for anyone packing with the potential of having to use it. 😉

My boat ditch bags are larger and also contain a second 12ga flare gun with a dozen extra flares, smoke flares, an air horn and a mirror as well as a fully charged handheld VHF radio with a portable solar charger, two vinyl 12x12 tarps red and yellow, and two Mustang auto inflate life jackets.
Plus my sling bag inside the water tight ditch bag will be leaving with me as well.

I picked up a fairly large medic bag since having my own NP living with me, it seemed like a good idea. Sorry to tell you but most ideas of "bugging out" are far from reality. There's only so much you can carry on your back without a proper amount of training.

As others here the stuff I have is WAY more than I could ever carry or load out in a reasonable time. Next step is to build better for hunkering down.

In total agreement with all of you fine gentleman, the title of this thread has been updated. I too echo all the above comments as I have no plans to leave my home unless absolutely necessary. I put together a bag many years ago (before my current living situation) that I take when traveling especially in my wife or daughter's car. My truck is heavily equipped with tools and supplies (not as much as @TRAMPER ;) ) but many times we travel in my wife's SUV. I have always called it my bug out bag but now realize it is a complete misnomer. It will now be referred to as "get our ass back home to hunker down and fight bag" :ROFLMAO:

When I get home this evening, I will open it up and take pics of the contents.

Getting home....# 1 thing your preferred firearm (if not two) and ammo. Everything thing else is for comfort. # 2 how much fuel do you have in the tank? I was stupid the other day....I had 80 miles to go before I stopped to fuel up. I need to be more in the mind to fuel up at 1/2 tank left.

Given one's locale sure other things could be useful. Water, food, medical supplies, tools, clothes, boots/shoes, etc etc etc.
Anyone near any urban/built-up area is going to need to be in a defensive posture to get home (say 30-45 minutes tops). Medical care enroute...either you know how to treat a gunshot wound or you don't. I'm not rendering aid to John Q. on my way home.
More than 1+ hours honest driving to get home....better have firearms/ammo. Sure tools can help you with any sort of obstacle but that takes time. I doubt most people could axe through a decent mature tree blocking a roadway within 10 minutes.

Sorry....I was driving the other day with stupid ideas in my mind. Looking at the size of the trees along a major route of traffic. Anyone with a decent chainsaw and 30-45 minutes of sawing could start a SERIOUS roadblock. But knowing my area I had a pretty okay idea of how to get past the issue. One needs multiple routes to get home. Multiple plans...backup to the backup to the backup ideas.
Maybe a full on Carli catalog truck isn't a bad idea. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:   :oops:

Drive home today or around your area. Then tell yourself...the worst is happening...what do I do. You can do this 100's of times, you will see the biggest advantages and the worst obstacles. You will see the chokepoints, the areas you just cannot get past. Then you can set into motion the "daily carry" of items in your truck. Don't forget weapons don't need to be firearms, yet you better be ready. I got a long 1/2 drive breaker bar as an example. Not the best but useable.

After all that....then ask yourself...does my spouse/family know what I know?? Cause when you are the one shot, or having a serious injury are they going to hold it together. Man....this just gets tougher and tougher. Multiple plans...backup to the backup to the backup ideas. UUghggghghghghgh.........

Good morning! I was out of pocket yesterday and just now have come across this thread. I guess because of my age, my physical abilities/inability at my age, and a baby Boomer I have not gone to the extent most of you have. So you understand some of what I will say I will tell you I love my country, I trust the government 0% no matter political affiliation. I am a retired LEO from a major city, 26 years.

I pray none of you need these provisions, most of which I agree are necessary. I feel I am blessed to have lived to this point and look forward to the time I have left. I live in a very small community which I cherish. If something occurs either natural or man made I feel secure and I also know the Lord will be with me. I am a believer and proud to share that I am. Now if I were 30 to 40 years younger my family would be a concern and would have provisions in place. I know I have rambled on, but one of my questions is if things get to a point to where we have to stand our ground with whatever force is necessary why are flex cuffs and hand cuffs needed. When l/we are under attack and my space is being invaded I'm NOT TAKING ANY PRISONERS, they will be dead right there! I commend all of you for being proactive and prepared, I pray none of it is needed.
