So I’ve been waiting 4 months for my new 7.3L KR Tremor to be built. Today was the day to pick it up from the dealer. I was super stoked, but having been a GM guy my whole life it was a little nerve racking to bring home a Ford. Then I got the beast back to my home about 75 miles away and tucked it into the garage for the night. As luck would have it, let the dogs at 10pm before settling in for the night when I noticed a big puddle on the driveway. Walked over to it and found out it was engine oil! Quickly ran into the garage and sure things...big puddle under the truck. Looked under the truck, yup, entire under carriage was soaked with oil as well. Checked the oil, bone dry! Never got a single idiot light or anything the entire ride home either. I can say that I am beyond upset with Ford - $75k for a brand new truck and this is what I get! Maybe I should have stuck with GM...not cool Ford, not cool at all ?

Wow, and no, not cool, sorry to hear that. Any idea where it came from?

What in the world! Sorry man, thats some bad luck right there, hope they make it right for you.

That is wild! Let us know what happened and I am sorry to see and hear about it.

I’ll update the thread once the dealer looks at it. Of course, 10pm on a Friday night this happens. Not expecting much movement until Monday aside from them giving me a loaner to use. Looks like it may be coming from the oil pump maybe? Not coming from the filter or pan. ?

On the bright side, you got your first oil change early and for free!

Sorry man, this really sucks. I'm not laughing at you, just trying for a little levity.

Oh trust me, I laughed too when I saw what happened - mostly to keep from crying though ?

So good news is that there was oil in your driveway, meaning the truck had some left when you got it home,so it want running dry at any point during your drive. Did you get any low oil pressure warnings? If not, you may be ok once the leak is fixed. Good luck with it!

Well, that is only 2 more days at least :)

That sucks, hopefully they can bump that warranty up for you. Probably nothing to be too concerned about, except the hassle and the fact it's brand fucking new.

UPDATE - it was a faulty o-ring on the oil cooler line. No one has this o-ring in stock, so it won’t arrive until Wednesday for replacement. ??‍♂️
Well that's the shits knowing you were stepping out to trust a new truck from a new brand. If it's any consolation I can say from experience that getting an O-ring pinched while installing is a pretty easy thing to do, especially if it's a small profile like .032", which is probably the case here. I rebuild pumps, agitators and hydraulics of all types and this isn't so uncommon. At least sharing with us on the forum gives us a heads up to watch for. Hopefully this will be your worst experience and it's practically behind you.

Edit - PS: I had exactly the same thing happen on a '99 7.3 powerstroke about 6 months into owning it, only it was an o-ring on the high pressure oil line going to the fuel injectors. My "idiot light" was the oil that was suddenly spraying up on the windshield while driving down the interstate. Very alarming at first but Ford took care of everything. I never had quite as much trust in that engine afterwards knowing that such a fragile part could take the engine out completely in minutes. Long story short, they all have o-rings and gaskets and sensors and a whole lot more weak links.

I would not touch GM.

It's only the special cases where a company willfully covers up defects that kill people, then has the government unload their outstanding shares 60 days before it becomes public knowledge, and installs the friendly female CEO so they can drag her in front of Congress and she can say "I'm a Mom. Look at me, do you think your Mom would intentionally try and kill you?" And then allow bankruptcy to shield them from liability from said defects while granting $45 billion in tax loss carry forwards. Go GM!

But that’s me. Any company that builds close to or over 1 million of anything will have parts that do not work occasionally. It sucks when you get the one. As long as Ford stands behind their product it’s just a hassle. If they don’t you have the right to be angry. I have near 15k miles on mine and it’s been magnificent!
I did have 03 Mach 1 in which the dealer did the oil change and on the hwy on-ramp I lost my oil. Turned out they did not verify the o ring came off with old filter. Crap happens they fixed it and we move on. I’m sure GM dealers have seen their share of accidental incidents.

Congrats on your truck. You will love it!

Oh I have no illusions about GM’s business motivations or practices, but personally never had a major issue with any of my trucks. To your point though, I’m sure all manufacturers have production issues from time to time - I care most about how they deal with them. Local dealer has been great to deal with, just hope Ford stands behind their product as well.

Sounds to me like ford needs to pay someone to clean that oil up out of your driveway and garage. I’m sure it will leave a stain.
Funny, dealer mentioned the same thing! Of course though, I couldn’t wait that long and cleaned it up myself. Came out of the garage about 90%, but struggling to come out of the pavement. The last few days here in Maine have been in the single digits with a wind chill well below zero - so I haven’t tried too hard on the Pavement!

Looks like it was leaking on the dealer lot, or is that snow melting?

Hard telling. We had a thaw, so may just be melt. They took it in after that for prep, that was fresh off the truck.
