Hello,

I have a 2021 F250 Tremor with just 500 miles on it. If I turn the steering wheel 80% or more to the left/right, I can hear a binding sound. If I straighten the wheel, the sound is not present. I took a look underneath and I don't see anything rubbing. Has anyone experienced this? I know it’s probably impossible to diagnose the issue based on a couple of sentences, but any possibilities what's causing this?

I took the truck to Johnson Ford (Marble Falls TX). The service attendant couldn’t figure out the sound (he messed around with the rear differential switch). He told me that they will probably need to take the rear differential apart. Because the sound only occurs when I cut the wheel, it’s hard for me to imagine it’s related to the rear differential (but I’m not a mechanic). My appointment is set for next week.

Sucks that a new truck is having issues.

Thanks

It sounds like the front axle might be in 4WD or partially engaged. Are the front manual hubs locked in? I have heard of some trucks showing up at the dealer with the front hubs locked.

This is concerning that your service department was about to do that.

any 4WD truck will bind if engaged. If you push it too much while making tight turns you will be due for a service appt though! Lol. Glad it got figured out. I too have heard of a lot of them coming from the factory locked. Strange.

I agree. It was bad enough to have the front hubs locked by the factory and the selling dealer not finding it, but for a certified technician to suggest they need to tear apart a rear differential to resolve an obvious problem with the front axle is disturbing. They are either totally incompetent or trying to scam Ford for Warranty repairs that are not needed.

I had the same issue, searched for the why and found the above information. When I went out and checked, I had one hub in auto and one hub locked....

if you have the adaptive steering it has a motor in there that turns the wheel extra at low speed and you do hear a little noise on some of them sounds like a creaking kinda. if you don't have that then check your hubs and take a video of the noise for us maybe

They already solved the problem. It was the hubs. Cheers.
