Has anyone used a bakbox with the Ford OEM hard folding tonneau? I read somewhere that the Ford tonneau may actually be the same as the MX4.

I wanted to bring this back to the top. Hopefully someone has experience with this. My Ford OEM hard tonneau certainly looks like the online photos of a MX4, but I can’t be sure. I would really like to add a bakbox. I could order one and return if it doesn’t fit, but was hoping to get a confirmation (one way or the other) first.

Call the company and ask them. Surely they would know.

@HALL250 I will share my investigation from a little while ago. I was looking at a good solution for hard cover and storage. At one point I thought the Bak box and Extang Exceed would fit my needs. I looked at alot of install videos and pictures of the hardware and determined they were compatible. They are both from the same parent company and are flush mount covers. When I reached out to both Bak and Extang I received a generic "Our products work with our accessories" response. Not helpful. I thought the Ford hard cover was an "over the rails" mount? If so, I do not think it will work the the Bak box but never really researched that option tbh.

Here is one I like that should work, however:

I ended up liking this one better than the Bak box anyway since it is locking and has its own mounting system with flexibility of location.

My current thought is a hard rolling cover with this box although that may change when I actually pull the trigger on something.

Hope this helps somewhat...

I'll add I am just going off the picture on ford.com... can't say that I have seen one in person:

It actually looks more like one of the Extang hard folders to me:

I am fairly sure my OEM soft folder is an Extang Trifecta.

Good info. Thanks for the reply. I think I am actually going to create a custom setup using my Milwaukee Packout boxes. Easy in/out and multi purpose.

Yeah that looks like a Bakflip... Glad Ford does such a good job with their descriptions and images... :p

I like the pack out option or something similar. My two leading thoughts are Truxedo Sentry with a Tonneaumate or Roll N Lock with removable storage like you are using.

FWIW in answer to your initial question I think you could use either the bakbox or tonneaumate with that cover although it is probably a moot point now!

I had the backflip MX2 (the shiny one) on my 2019 Raptor and I got the Ford version for my tremor.

While it looks identical, I believe they are made by different companies. Retraks? Something with an R.

Anyway, Yes, that Bakbox will 100% work.

That’s what I was looking for. Thanks!
