As this is to me anyways the most exciting reason to choose a 2022 over a 2021, i am very interested in the OTA updates we can now get with these trucks. Has anyone experienced this yet ?

some might be like WTF would you like OTA.. well i detest having to go to the dealer, here in Canada anyways it seems like they intentionally make it shitty experience to deter people from getting warranty work... I have read dealers dislike providing software updates as it doesn't make them much $$ and costs them time and effort.

This is why most TCM and PCM updates only get rolled out to trucks where customers fight and complain enough to get the latest iteration.. my hope is that we will start receiving ongoing improvements as the months roll on.

I’m not exactly sure what you are talking about but my 21 has OTA updates. My 17 F150 had OTA updates. Just make sure you are hooked up to WiFi.

+1 to Sync 3 already supporting OTA updates. Also supports self-updating via USB, so no need to go to the dealer if OTA isn’t working for any reason.

USB updating is my plan for my Sync 4 truck since I’ll be pulling the fuse for the modem.

2022 have the ability to flash all the modules; tcm, ecm, fuel pump, abs.. 100's of modules

2021 and lower can only update Sync3 OTA, 2022 can update everything..

2022 can update everything..
Woah, that's crazy! Could leave alot of people stranded or with an inoperable truck if a module update goes south before Ford issues a fixed update, assuming the OTA update itself didn't brick the actual OTA process lol.

+1. That sounds terrifying.

i welcome getting a tcm update three years from now and not having to go into the dealer.

it looks like super duty has had it since 2020 its called FNV 2.0, sync 4 will give access to the FNV 2.0 i suspect

I guess if you’re going to get the update regardless then sure, OTA is better. No question. So it boils down to are you aggressively taking updates or not.

It sounds like you are, so ya I can see why you’re excited for it. :)

My default behavior with vehicle electronics is if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. If I’m not having an issue, I don’t want an update that could potentially introduce one. And I certainly don’t want one without my explicit knowledge and approval, which I’m not clear on whether these OTA updates are silent or not.

Hopefully these updates can be applied via USB as well and, if so, I’ll be very happy. Can still do the update at home if I want to, but if I don’t take any action nothing happens since the truck won’t have a network connection.

Maybe I’m old school though. My 2009 F-150 has never had a programming update at the dealer as far as I’m aware and it’s now 12 years old. Perhaps updates are needed more frequently in newer vehicles?

Did you pull your fuse? Does it kill any of the sync features like road maps etc? I too want to disable any OTA update or ability to have any control over my vehicle. If you did successfully please share what fuse it is. :)

I did pull the fuse! And wrote up a full guide to doing so here:

I think I addressed all the comments there, but if you still have questions be sure to post them in that thread and I'm happy to answer as best I can. :)

To specifically address your question, I'll quote myself from that post:

Update after driving the truck a good amount: nothing else broken that I can find other than a crossed out cloud in Ford's navigation screen. It's likely there's some functionality in there that depends on a data connection, though I don't personally use the built-in navigation so I can't give details.

All of the FNV info I found only says F150? I can't find anything that this exists in the 22 superduty?
