Another 23 design blunder no one seems to be talking about

Just adding this from the other thread, I received the recall for my 2023 (haven't had any issues yet knock on wood)

Campaign/NHTSA#
23C25/Awaiting#
Issue Date
2023-07-21
Description
On your vehicle, the instrument panel cluster ipc screen may be blank. You may not have access to driver information communicated through the ipc display, including vehicle speed, transmission shift position, warnings, and telltales.
Safety Risk
Failure to illuminate the instrument panel cluster renders safety related telltales and gauges unreadable, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Ford Motor Company is working closely with its suppliers to produce parts for this repair. When parts become available, Ford Motor Company will notify you via mail to schedule a service appointment with your dealer for repairs to be completed free of charge parts and labor.
Next Steps
Contact your local dealer and schedule a maintenance appointment. To find your local dealer, use the “find a dealer” feature below.

Very curious what the fix will be and if every 2023 SD with digital cluster is affected by it. Thinking that’s at least 300,000 units already.

Any chance they take that design mess out completely and replace it with a 2022 cluster?

For me just another good reason I'm glad I have a 2020. For me the new digital instrument cluster looks likes something out of Fisher Price. I think 20-22 is the best of both worlds in my opinion.

Interesting development.

Is it possible the new cluster on the 2023s is so limited because Ford is relying on the next version of carplay that has cluster integration.

Maybe we will get a software update when it’s released?

Am I missing something, or does the truck always default to the main menu on the center screen every time you start the truck? If that’s the case the is a huge step backwards. It looks like we have also lost the ability to change the order of what screens are selected in My View. Everything else interior wise is very nice, but the digital cluster is a giant fail with very little customization freedom.

It plain sucks right now. My few days with the truck, you’re spending an extra 15-20 seconds at every start up pressing through the OKs to get to the screen you had the last time.

In your opinion is this something can may be improved through an update? I’ve read where some people hope that’s the case, but I’m skeptical to believe the cluster is something that will be changed.

In theory, why not, it is software after all, can be reprogrammed. But i have no idea if Ford will address it.

There was something else even worse i noticed. So if you turn off front brake assist feature, the truck pops up a message when you switch to drive saying “front brake assist is off” or something similar. And it’s not just at start up, you go into reverse, then back to drive and that message pops up again and again and to get rid of it you must hit “OK”. What moron programmed a software like that!😀

And if you don’t turn it off, the truck will slam the brakes at random at toll plazas , traffic lights, etc. i had to turn it off it was so bad and almost dangerous.

I saw a video where a woman designed the cluster. No lie lol. That damn brake assist has brake checked me several times and made me look stupid. Annoying to say the least.

Oh yeah lol…that damn thing has given me a heart attack a few times now making me think I hit something. The latest time it was a taller curb pulling into a spot that triggered it. It’s very sensitive lol

I can't politely say what I think of the dash display or the brake check. Also, please don't ask me about the seat belt warnings.

I'm with 4wheels.....I certainly have the vocabulary, but I'll refrain from posting that type of invective. The nanny state type mind set behind this programming logic is way over the line.

The other day, I had this pop up message freeze on the screen. Nothing would clear it, menu wouldn't operate. Only way to fix was to turn the truck off, wait a few minutes, and restart it. Not cool...

I had a "vehicle on" pop up and not clear a couple weeks ago. Same as yours, had to turn the truck off and leave it for a while. I like the rest of the truck, but this dashboard sucks for no reason.

I have all the same problems mentioned here. I called up my dealership and stated all the issues and they said it shouldn't do that. However, they had 50+ vehicles ahead of me in their "technology" garage and had no loaners available. So decided to suck it up for now and hope an OTA update fixes this $hit$how.

Unreal to think Ford will actually address this issue with an update. We shall see.

Well, mine updated today. No, it did not correct the screen reset issue. It cracks me up they send this message "what's in this update?" and then don't say what is in the update.

Maybe the actual fix is forthcoming.

Same here… no change.

Holy cannoli, Ford addressed the last memory setting. In a typical Ford fashion, they quietly sneaked it into one of its updates without mentioning a thing about it. But at least they did it. Remains to be seen if i try again in the morning and the setting still holds:)
