Another 23 design blunder no one seems to be talking about

I’m still rather surprised how bare/sparse the new cluster looks. I drove one yesterday and it looked like an elementary school project. I’m actually all for clean and simple, but something about it looks actually too plain on a screen that big. The GMC version & even a recent Jeep Grand Cherokee L rental I had with full digital seemed more…refined/crisp/well thought out. I’m keeping my ‘22 for at least 12 yrs, so maybe by 2035 they get it figured out. :)
That is exactly right. What i was trying to say with my first post. Yea, it’s a digital cluster, yea it is here to say…but it really sucks the way it is currently implemented in 23 SD.

I actually now know who worked on its design. 38:30 Not her fan, to say the least.

I like the seats and HUD that’s about it. I’ll keep my 2022.

I’m getting tired of seeing all these horror stories about this **** cluster.

Ford kept hearing about people adding more noise to their trucks - exhaust, stereos, air horns, etc - that they felt they should help out by adding digital noise to the gauge cluster!

(Ok, I'm done. :p)

Yeah........that's if a customer wants the BEST of everything on the build......for rich people who have no skills.

Hey! I resent…er resemble that remark… actually, just the latter half.

I have not driven the new truck much. I am still dealing with the screen. I have done one restart after going into a store and the screen came back to the same screen. However, just a short time later I made another stop and the screen came back up at the usual start screen where you have to choose what you want to see.
I have noted that since I turned off the seat belt chime using the 4 click method, the screen starts with showing who is buckled. Drat.
I also have quite the beef that if I have the seat belt unbuckled (can you say hooking up a trailer or launching a boat?) that the dang screen shows the red driver seat and Will Not change to another screen. (I do think that once trailer lights are connected the seat belt warning goes away) I have to do more testing to confirm.

My truck has a ghost in it. When my kids put a small, less than 15 pound bag, on a seat, the truck seems to think there is a person there and the alerts go off. To the point that I either have to turn the truck off, then on again, or buckle the empty seat. I tell my wife it is the imaginary girlfriend she says I have sitting there, LOL.

I’m only at 500 miles on my 23, but I am not enjoying the digital display. The lack of graduated markings and labels for those markings leave me wanting.

For example, one can change the display to show a small boost gauge in the top center of the screen. It is labeled with a 0 minimum and a 40 maximum with no other markings. Am I pushing 5lbs of boost or 9? Given the size of the display, you really can’t look at it that long and have what you are seeing actually mean anything.

The speedo is the worst example but at least there is a numeric display in the center there.

I’m hoping Ford makes some updates and improves this over time.

The SD cluster and screen actually are very similar to the ones in the 23 Escape we just got. Not terrible but I like the 22 SD better. I am also not a fan of the new steering wheel control layout. Probably because I am so used to the other configuration/layout which has been around seemingly forever... It seems like a change for change sake.
Always wish they'd put some buttons on the back for the radio like mopar does or did.

It's the alarms that are really driving me nuts. I'm adding 10 minutes to my commute just to shut off the same screens over and over and over and over ....

Honestly, once you set up the dash, it should just stay that way.
Oh yeah, bonkers. I run my 37's at 45/38 right now so I have tpms, seat belt, and brief 10 speed indicator pop up everytime. Probably one im forgetting. I did get the seatbelt chime silenced on day one so that was nice and I removed the check back seat for child reminder.

I am still under 200 miles so I am learning the dash. Why don't we have a digital readout for the tach? duh!!!!!!

I keep seeing a TON of '23 SDs around here(mostly Tremors) and I must say, the best angle is from the back.

I keep seeing issue after issue with these 23 screens, and not just the cluster. I don’t what to think anymore. At least to me all these 23 betas are stay away from territory.

If you change your display to read out diesel measurements it gives you the actual boost psi readings rather than the small one top you are referring to.

Just adding this from the other thread, I received the recall for my 2023 (haven't had any issues yet knock on wood)

Description
On your vehicle, the instrument panel cluster ipc screen may be blank. You may not have access to driver information communicated through the ipc display, including vehicle speed, transmission shift position, warnings, and telltales.
Safety Risk
Failure to illuminate the instrument panel cluster renders safety related telltales and gauges unreadable, increasing the risk of a crash.
