Trying to decide if the Amp Research PowerStep Extreme (electric retractable side steps) are worth $300 more than the common base model PowerSteps ? (second motor & a more aggressive tread surface are the only significant differences I see in the descriptions … unless I am missing something).

I do run Montana and Wyoming in the winter for snowmobiling, but I have a hard time believing a second motor is going to make much difference with frozen ice encapsulating the side steps.

Anyone running the Extreme version of the PowerSteps, and if so, any real life experiences where these improved functionalities actually made a difference ?

Appreciate any constructive feedback.

Just buy the Powerstep... You aren't going to be able to obtain the Extreme.
Amp can't supply it, no one has it, and people who ordered it are largely waiting months and months to obtain it.
There will always be a statistical outlier that chimes in that they recieved theirs a week after ordering but that is a fluke of inventory that is not reproducible.

I'm on week 10 of waiting on mine from Stage 3, and it's so bad they've taken the Extreme off their website - yet they have something like 35 standard powersteps in stock.

Had Amps on my Tundra. Lasted about a year iirc. one board just wouldn't work after a while. I'm in coastal Md so pretty moderate climate. Won't do them again. I see lots of trucks with permanently lowered amp steps.

Thanks … good to have feedback from someone who is waiting too long for order fulfillment (sorry to hear about your crappy experience).

Looks like I am ordering the regular PowerSteps … and you are right … local dealer said he has access to two regional warehouses with over a dozen in each location (2 day delivery from order entry per dealer).

I think you will be happier having a set in-hand than imagining the day a set might arrive.

The experience hasn't been negative as much as tedious... I imagine we're all weary of the effects of an economy intentionally driven into the ground; hopelessly strained supply chains are simply an effect of the economic deconstruction occurring around us all.

When I ordered, I was told 4-6 weeks. Now that I'm double that, I'm just being pigheaded; I'm going to wait it out.

Good luck!
