awesome video and article i have found that with one tank of diesel you will do a regen so 500 to 600 miles guess i am about avg so i am happy with that ... and i avg 18 mpg during a regen on the highway and 21 when not regen mode and i have the % on my dash so i look at it all the time
 
Aside from Forscan, is there a way to determine if it’s in regen mode? I understand you can see the mileage drop, but around town that can be tough to directly notice. There’s also the “smell” but not always obvious unless a window is down or you’re outside. For example, yesterday I drove around for some errands, then dropped some trash off on the way back next to my place. When I got out to drop the trash off, I could def smell the Regen so I left and drove around for a bit til it ended. Would’ve been nice to know before I got home so I didn’t have to turn around and leave again and could’ve stayed on the highway.

We do not have a magic button. I can tell by watching a couple of parameters with my OBD reader. My EGT2 sensor maxes out at 1100 degrees. I wondered what he smell was the first time it happened.
 
It seems from that article that his regens were odometer driven. WTF? How is that science?
 
According to my DPF% mine regents about every 900 miles. I check the filter % nearly every day out of curiosity. The first time I noticed the mpg drop and the smell of hot metal (like my wife’s curling iron). That was at 945 miles. The next time was at 1875. I was watching the filter % climb to 100 and decrease all the way down to 0. It took about 15 miles of country road stop and go. At 2300 now, I’m at 45%.

Was he using bunker oil instead of quality diesel?

Mine is about 500 to 600 miles and I use shell diesel but I drive alot of highway ... Also remote start and let it warm up every morning that I drive the truck
 
Last week was cold for Louisiana, so I remote started. I did notice when I remote start for about 15 minutes I’ll see a 10-15% increase in the filter %. I know there’s a factor for idling in the regen interval, but haven’t made sense of it yet.

I don’t have a fancy reader installed yet, so it’s possible I missed some. The ones I caught it went all the way down to 0%. If I missed it, it would have almost had to start before filter % was to 100 or not gone completely down to 0.

I don’t watch it the whole time, but I usually check it at the beginning of a trip, end of a trip, or both. And if I’m not actively looking at something, I have the avg mpg screen up, which is usually a good indicator.
