Hoping to get some real world opinions on 7.3L towing capacity and range. Have been looking at getting a diesel Tremor because towing an 11,000 lb. travel trailer (loaded weight) is the primary need in areas where refueling opportunities are scarce. Not having a lot of luck getting a diesel purchased and/or ordered. Would like to have the truck in hand by August. Have an opportunity to make a deal on a gas engine, but am concerned about range. 400-500 miles round trip without refueling is really the ideal. Thanks in advance for the help.

I didn’t have 450 miles range when the truck was new and the tank was full. If you don’t mind carrying fuel with you (like 4 5 gal cans) then the 7.3 will be fine. I’ve read people are getting 8-9 mpg towing. You can do the math how far you will get on a 34 gal tank. There are a lot of factors like what your towing(tall wind blocking 5th wheel rv or towing a vehicle on a trailer). Then there is the terrain(are you crossing multiple mountain ranges or passing down a coastline?). 6.7 is your best bet if refueling is a concern. I understand you can get over 900 mile range with an aftermarket tank.

may want to look through this thread

Two of my friends had access to national truck sales. i was willing to drive or fly anywhere to get a Tremor diesel. One friend who wasn’t having much luck said that I should keep an eye out on Facebook marketplace. Thought that was an odd place to find a Tremor but i was wrong and without delay I went that day and closed the deal. Not my original order but a Tremor and diesel. My local dealer was pissed but when my truck comes in, if it comes in, he will likely be able to mark it up.

You won’t see nearly that range, if towing or not, with the smaller tank.

You are going to likely need an aux tank for that kind of range towing 11k with or without diesel, diesel might get you close to 400 miles... Diesel is much easier to get an aux tank, but you can get gas transfer tanks for the bed. With a transfer tank you would have to pull off somewhere and top off your tank but its doable.

I have similar requirements, so I ordered a Lariat 7.3 CCLB, since with the 8ft bed you get a 48gal tank. Couldn't get the Tremor package, but I can add most of the components after I get the truck.

Just saw two tremors today with diesel’s on the car lot here in California one XLT one lariat
