7.3L jumps when put into drive (initial start)

Anyone else feel like their truck likes to jump forward when initially putting it into drive after starting the engine? Doesn’t happen after the truck has warmed up a bit. Wondering if that’s normal for these transmissions. No engine light illuminated
 
Same here. I am learning to hold the brake firmly while I wait for the surge.
 
Yep noticed that too on my 7.3 !!! if you pay the $10,000 extra for the diesel it doesn't do that :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I love my new 7.3 I just wait a moment to place in gear. We have Audi cars since 2015 and they also do it and they jump in second when cold. So I am used to it. The Audi is much worse. Must be some thing to do with all those gears in the trans and the cold fluid.
 
Mine did that for the first week of two then it went away. I’m guessing torque converter/clutch pack break in. Also TCM learning wtf is going on.
 
Same, I find that it always happens if/when i start truck and shift to drive right away, so what ive been doing to prevent it is I wait until my seat memory movement is finished and then shift. usually helps.
 
I always remote start on the walk over to the truck so it never bothers me
 
I've had my truck since December and though it was possibly a cold weather thing but we've had days in the upper 60's and 70's and still does it no matter the temperature. I find that when I back out of my driveway and shift into drive I wait a second before I even try to pull away because of this. I have under 3k miles and it's been like this from day one. I did notice that if I put it in ECO mode it is somewhat better.

Mine is the same but I’m not worried about it. It just feels eager to rip! I think the truck is just way lighter due to saving all that diesel money and omitting the DPF, SCR, pipe, DEF tank and dosing valve. ??. Don’t get me wrong. I love diesels but unfortunately I work on that high rate of failure stuff daily.
 
I am starting mine and then putting seat belts on and adjust radio to allow for a moment of engine warm up. No big deal but it is funny I noticed it then saw this thread.
Years ago when I used to snow plow, I would " slam" into drive then reverse plowing large lots over hours in the middle of the night. It takes a toll on the transmissions. So if I take that moment to let it warm up, its probably worth it over the long run.
 
Anyone have any luck getting Ford to address this? Trying to hookup to a trailer is fucking annoying as shit because of this.

Line up perfect, shift from Reverse to Park, and the damn thing bucks 2 inches.
 
And I thought I was the only one as well. I do notice that the initial start idle is on the high side, usually waiting 15-20 seconds does the trick
 
Same here. It does seem to be less jolting to almost no jolting after a nice warm up of about 15 min or so. I have also figured out a long time ago, after driving delivery trucks, that if you back into a driveway or are facing down hill, put it into Reverse, then put the e-break on, then shift it into Park. And the same goes if you pull in to the driveway or facing up hill, leave it in Drive, then apply e-break then Park. You can also on flat ground, when connecting a trailer, with foot on the break, put it into N and wait a sec. then apply the e-break, then switch to Park. That should help with the 2 or so inch lurch in either direction. The common factor here is to use the e-break baby!
