Hoping someone knows how to solve this. Or point me in a direction. This thing was just at Dealer for a week getting all recommended preventative maintenance done

I give it a little(lot) of gas to enter the freeway on ramp and it starts to cut out and the Check Engine Light flashes for ten seconds and stays on. Feels like what I have always called a misfire.

My f150 did this and it annoyed the shit out of me. Dealer "couldn't recreate". I called BS.

Ultimately sold it and bought current truck
If this one starts doing the same thing, I might drive it off that cliff!

Anyone had this issue and solved it?

Could be bad plug wire(s) or the coil pack(s) themselves. Old revision plug wires are the most common misfire issues on the 7.3's.

That is classic signs of misfire. You should have some codes that will tell you what cylinder.

Best Case: Plug Wire or Spark Plug
Worst Case: Lifter issue

My suggestion would be to replace the wires on all, or at least the affected cylinders and see if that corrects it. Do not drive too long with it like that or it will burn the Catalytic Converter up.

Solid advice by both. Thank you. Replacing wires on all to start

Would hope the dealer would do that for you? Someone screw up when they were doing their preventative maintenance?
Following…fingers crossed

I think you're on the right track with the above recommendations.

See if you can borrow a fuel pressure gauge and run it off the fuel rail into the truck. When you pin it see if the pressure drops.

This is after checking the plugs/wires and possibly even the coils.

Also, what codes are set in the ECU? If the MIL is flashing there should be stored codes. I'll bet they're misfire but still worth posting.

second also, are you running a decent quality gas (Top Tier)? If you're running junk fuel there's a decent chance the knock sensor system is cutting in to protect from predetonation.

Third also, how many miles? Have you replaced the fuel filter?

Always run 91~93
Haven’t checked codes yet
60k and just changed fuel filter around 55k

Do you buy from Top Tier stations (Chevron, Texaco, BP, Sinclair, etc.) or are you buying from the smaller mom and pop stations? Fuel without detergents can also lead to carbon build up in the engine and cause similar power issues.

Almost always from top tier branded stations

Second this... Get the latest revision service wires - last I checked they were suffix "D"

Here are the latest plug wires from Ford: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=14790941&cc=3449891&pt=7224&jsn=1416
Pull the codes and figure out which cylinders are misfiring and swap wires with an adjacent cylinder to see if the misfire moves. If it moves replace the bad plug wires. If the misfire doesn't move try changing the coils. If it still doesn't move suspect a bad lifter. Bad wires and bad lifters are the most common problems on the 7.3. Confirming the codes are for misfires is the place to start,

Hope you get this resolved quickly. Let us know. Following!

I had the similar misfire codes at 60k miles

oriellys started talking all these different sensors it could be

throught cool that sounds like warranty

dealer raped me for all new plugs, wires and install. not covered by my warranty

good luck with it
problems but I do think this is a good motor
hope I'm right

I bought the extended warranty with my pickup and have wondered if i shouldnt preemptively change these to avoid the problems but have wondered if they'd be covered by the ext warranty.

Sorry to hear that but i appreciate you sharing this info.

That sucks man. You could sell one BD light. Better now than right before meet.

Wow...that hurts. I just changed all plugs and wires on mine at 25k miles using OEM parts that were ordered before the delivery of the truck new. At the time, the parts were a little over $150. After replacing them, I re-ordered all new plugs and wires again and it was close to $300.

Changing them out is not difficult. Torquing the passenger side is the toughest just due to space constraints. It took me 1.5hrs, but spent 45mins of that just torquing and figuring out how to get the torque wrench on the passenger side. I'm going to buy a shorter torque wrench for next time, but $1k for that service seems kind of high.
