So I’ve been looking around for a receiver cover for when I’m not towing which will be more often than not. From what I gather from reading on here, a 6.7 with the tow package gets a 3” receiver with a 2.5” sleeve. What are you guys who have this setup doing in this situation? I’m not one for leaving my hitch in place when not towing, and the B&W doesn’t do it for me while in the “stowed” position. Anyone find 3” covers or are you using the sleeve and purchasing 2.5” which seem to be far more common. I didn’t see anything about this elsewhere so apologies if I missed it somewhere else.

Not so much a cap... But when I'm not using my Weigh Safe, I drive around with a Factor 55 HitchLink 3.0 with a Warn shackle. Not a cheap combo but I can tug anything with it on the fly. You can get a similarly capable receiver/shackle setup for much cheaper.

I don’t use the sleeve. I just bought a new 3” hitch receiver from Weight Safe. I don’t leave it on the truck. I store it behind the seat until I need it.

And when you remove said Weigh Safe and place it behind your seat, what do you put in its place? That is what I’m trying to locate. In my current F-150 I have a stainless cap that says SIG that I lock in place. Looking for something similar in 3” if they are available somewhere. If not, do people step down to the 2.5” or something else?

Nothing at the moment. I can’t find a 3“ cover. I was thinking about using the 2.5” sleeve it came with and get a cover. 2.5“ covers are all over.

I leave the 2.5 sleeve in and the 2" that I bought as well. Ultimately the best place to store that. My 2.5 drop hitch is going to live locked to a bracket in the bed since it weighs a ton I don't want it flying through my head in an accident.

My ultimate plan is to make a cool custom cover for myself with some sort of Ford/Tremor graphic. I made this one for one of the local fire engines. Maybe even make a few for folks if there was enough interest but it all depends on how much time I have and getting through the busy season at work right now.

After looking around on the internet and doing some thinking, I believe my best bet will be to sleeve it down to 2” and go from there when not towing. I have a few other apparatuses for bikes, boats, etc that also fit the 2” so I’ll need a reducer anyway. Anyone know of a good 3”-2” reducer? I’ve seen 3”-2.5” and 2.5” to 2” but do they make one that skips the 2.5” step? I’d rather go simple and rugged then have to buy several sizes and have them collect dirt and salt.

I never found a 3 to 2 sleeve. I am just upgrading all my stuff to 2.5 that is critical and using 2 sleeves for the bike rack and cargo tray if I ever use it.

I found another solution to my reducer dilemma. It is a 3” to 2” solid piece reducer. It eliminates one set of sleeves which should lessen the amount of rattling it does. Here’s my new setup so I could still use my 2” stuff from my F150 as well as my old hitch receiver cover.

I picked it up from etrailer.com They actually have two different ones. The one I (mistakenly) got is from Reese, is more expensive, and is made in Mexico. The one I had been researching (one trailer) was 10 or 20 bucks cheaper and USA made.

I am interested in one. I would like my brand on it if possible. Let me know if you are interested in making another one and the cost sir.
Thank you

My plan is to fab my own skid plate that plugs in to receiver. The receiver is what will drag first, I have some hitch stock and will weld a plate that goes under and forward, curled up a bit for skid plate I can't draw but here's the idea

Looks pretty cool:) Something to consider though, IMHO, it sticks out quite a ways and when off road it decreases your departure angle, but not an issue if you're not on some moderate to difficult trails. The receiver is always the first thing to drag on the rocks. For myself, I'll build a skid plate that inserts in to receiver. I'll use ¼" steel plate welded to receiver stock, it goes down just under receiver then bends forward with the forward edge bent/curled upwards to act as a skid plate:) Just a thought..

Why the need for a skid plate?

I took the 2.5”x2” reducer outta my 2013 f50 when i traded it off for Tremor and slid it into my 3”x2.5” that came with New 2020.
