Greetings,

First time towing our 10k bumper-pull travel trailer @ 75 mph up a long straight climb using cruise control where the truck kept downshifting until it was happy in 5th gear with the tach somewhere around 5,000 rpm (if I remember correctly). Noticed my transmission temperature (cold / hot gauge) slowly climbing, so I scrolled thru the display to the current transmission temperature which read 241 degrees and was still climbing. Luckily I crested the top of the hill about that time … and the temperature slowly returned to normal during the decent down the other side. I know these transmissions run a little hotter, but 241 degrees and continuing to climb did make me wonder if they undersized the transmission cooler on these trucks (or the line pressure is too high). Anyone else ran hotter transmission temps than this … and where did the temperature finally plateau … or did it ?

I was towing 20k on the gooseneck with my 7.3 and saw 235°. It never got into the red on the graph gauge. I have had no problems with my tranny thus far.

I have a diesel and my transmission and oil temps have only ever been in the upper 220’s. I pull up a lot of mountains.
Also, using cc on long pulls up a mountain my truck will run in 10th gear, only downshifting to 8th if someone gets in my way. I run 5-10 under speed limit most times. I would say your cruise control at a minimum might be messed up. If it does it without cruise control you definitely have a problem.

I towed my 9500 lb TT through the mountains in CO, WY, ID and MO at 75 MPH without seeing my trans temp go past the high 220s. I have the 6.7L, so I had zero issues pulling up long 6-7% grades with no hints of engine or transmission overheating.

Uh, this.
Towing uphill at 75 mph on a straight divided highway with a speed limit of 75 mph and a tandem axle trailer with Maxxis 8008 radial trailer tires that are rated at 80 mph with brand new wheel bearings and brakes just installed last month … and towing this with a new 2021 Ford F-250 Tremor w/ 7.3L gas motor & 10-speed transmission. Is this not how these trucks are meant to be used … honestly … I was able to do this many moons ago with my 1997 big block 1-ton gasser with only a 4-speed tranny.

Was it in tow/haul mode?
Yes sir … was in tow / haul mode … transmission did a great job downshifting … very smooth transitions between each gear … only issue was the temperature that kept creeping upward.

Depends on the grade of the hill.

Towing my 8k travel trailer I have seen very similar situation with 2021 7.3 tremor. 65-70 mph in 5th gear and 4500-5000 rpm. Tranny temp at 240, engine temp only 212. 8% grade and outside temperature around 110 degrees
