2024 Whirring Bearing Sound

if the axle is howling or whining i would think the damage is already done and no amount of special potion additive would do any good. but it never hurts to throw that last second 4th qaurter hail mary i guess

I agree, but a quick search online has people stating it made theirs quite after a fluid change, so who knows.

Oddly the truck is now shifting clunky at low speeds approaching stop signs and intersections. I’m about to suck up the loss and dump it I believe.

Mine is making a similar noise to the video above but higher pitched. Not sure if it's been there and I only notice it now with the topper, or if it just recently started... 🤷

My '23 (17k miles) is on week 5 in the shop. They have re-set up the rear because it was out(?!), found metal in the transfer case so rebuilt that, then replaced pinion and rear ring ... and it is still making noise.

If I didn't have a Carli eventure and S&B tank, wheels and rims, I would look at lawyering up for a replacement.

Ford quality sucks. I see why they have so many derisive monikers and acronyms now.

Hope all of yours fare better than mine.

I just posted a thread about a loud whine when driving. I think mine is something with the fuel or DEF pump.

"Might" have to add me to the list. I've been hearing (what sounds like to me) kind of a whistling sound since day one. (500 miles now) I'm hoping it's the pressure pump/valve in the tranny and that's normal....The noise is there until I come to a complete stop. Doesn't sound like a whirring sound to me, more like a pressure valve whining/whistling. I can hear it in the cab with the windows up and when going down the road w/ the windows down, it's pronounced as the sound bounces off guard rails and trees.

Does it sound like my video above? Not the best audio but I had to do it by myself 🤣

It's hard to tell. I heard the whistle or high pitched sound. Mine doesn't sound that loud....yet

Picked the truck up today and it is fixed. They ended up replacing all the bearings and seals in the rear axle. I see new shims as well, so it looks like they just completely re-setup the whole thing. They said it must have been some kind of contamination that had gotten in the pinion bearing. They never found any metal but could see scoring in the bearing.

It is quiet now and the gear setup seems great. No howling or whining. Only noise is the Duratrac tires.

Fixed the steering wheel pointing to left issue as well. Alignment was checked and was good. I thought he said they took the steering wheel off and put it back on straight. It doesn't sound like that in the writeup though. It says the electronic actuator not aligned with steering gear for wheel centered conditions. Whatever they did it seems perfect now as well. It was pretty far off to the left when I brought it home.
My 2023 with 4300 miles is apart at the dealer now for rear end bearings. Hopefull this will fix mine. Im also complaining about having the steering wheel off to the left like 90 percent of the time. I had them alighn the truck before i picked it up new and insisted that they re alighn it this time. I have seen other posts about steering and the steering wheels being crooked. Seems these trucks with the electric steering Ford copilot system have strange operations. Sometimes my steering is different from daya to day. I see others say same thing. I wish i knew what was going on.

So if your mounts are welded incorrectly, then as the truck breaks in/settles, the driveline changes and you have to shim the leaf packs. So says a suspension shop. Dealer is on week 6 and has independently identified and ordered the shims, so we'll see. Six weeks and counting: transfer case rebuild due to metal shavings, multiple resets and rebuilds on the rear, new pinion and ring and all kinds of other components.

Well I had a dealer look at my truck to try and identify the whirring/hum I hear. They did a half assed job. Apparently 2 techs couldn't hear the noise so I showed up and took the service manager for a ride and pointed it out to him. The sound is only evident at slower speeds. Once the tire and wind noise kick in at higher speeds you can't hear it.

He didn't know what it could be and they "took a look around" while it was on the lift. They told me they put a stethoscope on the axle and didn't hear anything abnormal. I also drove another superduty around the lot and it did not make the noise mine makes. And so it continues....

I JUST got mine back after 8 weeks. 2deg shim. Apparently as the suspension breaks in, the driveline angle changes, which causes the wear and the noise.

Have them pull transfer case fluid and rear diff fluid looking for shavings, too. It did a good amount of damage on mine because no one could find it for so long.

CJC offroad sells the shim, or your dealer can order it. But it may need more or less than 2deg, so have your dealer measure. Was also told that some places have luck up to 4-5 deg, depends on the truck itself.

Mine is finally quiet.

G'luck.

Cheers,
-mox

Mine has a noise that’s been there since I got it, it has about 800mi now.
It’ll be going in shortly to see what they have to say.

I’m over 6k miles and still getting dicked around.

It makes me very angry for some reason. My 21 was quiet. I’m tired of hearing that he’s waiting for the rep. Called ford customer care and they didn’t care either.

Not sure mine is that loud. I can hear it in the cab w/ the windows up cruising 20mph or less.

Interesting. I did a search for whining noise and it took me here. Step 1, identify you have a problem. Guess I'll make a trip to the dealer and get another one started! Thanks to all who posted - the info and videos helps me identify and ensure what I thought I was hearing and not driving myself nuts. Hopefully the dealer does right by it.

My truck is currently in the shop for the same thing, 2024 F350. Spider gears are all torn up pinion bearing is crunchy too. Unfortunately my dealership said they're not replace those spiders...

Wow. Hope you’re able to get them to fix it. Today I took it to my local FD. He wrote me up then tried to tell me there’s a $199 diagnostic charge if they can’t replicate the sound. I was like, “what?” Took my keys and left. My purchase dealer is 140 miles away. I’ll take it to them and they will fix it. Unreal the shit that goes on with a new truck.

Why TF not? What was their reasoning? I assume you have a warranty still it being less than a year old truck. About to take mine in too and want to be ready for whatever bullshit they try.
