Well I bought the truck on August 5th and on August 23rd it went into the shop supposedly due to a crankshaft position sensor sending erratic signals to the PCM. The dealer replaced the CPS and has stated the problem remains and they would need to contact Ford. Per Ford's recommendation they are now pulling the transmission to check another sensor for damage. Has anyone here had this problem? Any answers are greatly appreciated!

****UPDATE****

I picked the truck up today finally. The culprit was the crankshaft trigger ring (LC3Z 12A227 A). I will now wait to see what happens with the buyback. Thanks for all that have commented or have shown support, I appreciate it greatly!

Update

Ford Engineering has told the dealer to replace the PCM. The part was overnighted on Monday. They started working on it today as I had multiple messages come through in my Ford Pass. I haven't heard from the dealer as of yet....fingers crossed!

Good Luck.....yes I had a check engine. Re-seated the Air Filter. It Cleared.

One other thing that is common: Water intrusion getting the electronics wet in the passenger foot well and fender area.

Carefully check the truck for wet carpet or evidence of water in this area....trucks that had this started throwing all kinds of codes and other weird electrical problems.

If you don't mind send me your VIN . I can see what dtc's you have and notes from Ford if you want me to look into it.

Looks like it thinks its not timed right. Could be to crankshaft sensor but there is a SSM out on this issue to replace the sensor if engine runs rough

Wow that was quick! Thank you for looking into that. They did replace the crankshaft sensor on the 25th which did not resolve anything and that led them to contact Ford. Does it have anything on the calendar for today? Those would have been post PCM install. The error on the 23rd is when I first observed the problem before I took it in for service.

This is how I would do it...I would follow the SSM and replace crankshaft sensor, if it still remains I would check time on the engine. Being that low on miles It may not have been timed right from the plant but that's just me

I mentioned this to them yesterday but I doubt they will do anything about it. An Engineer at Ford suggested replacing the pins in the PCM connector which did not remedy the issue. So at the moment they (dealer or Ford) do not know what is wrong with my truck.

Hey at least I get to make my first payment with it in the shop!

Running with timing "off" could negatively impact engine longevity though right?

I suggested this in another issues thread, but maybe look into buyback. It's unacceptable to have a brand new truck down like this with no clear resolution.

If its in there for a prolonged period Ford may take care of your payment if you raise a stink. I've seen them do it

If the PCM is throwing these codes, you need to rule out the PCM or the engine. Duh not difficult lol since they swapped PCM it inclines me to think its engine timing

Now they are looking at dropping the transmission to check and or replace a tone ring sensor. They are waiting for the Field Engineer to give them the go ahead.....if this does not work my customer service advocate stated they would then send the Field Engineer to the dealer to diagnose the truck.
