Gents,,

I need some help identifying a part to possibly save me a trip to the dealer. Last week I started noticing a rattle from the underside of my 2021 Tremor. Upon further investigation it appears it is the POS heat shield mounted to the passenger side of the plastic transmission pan. The front two holes completed sheared out. You can see the damaged mounting holes below in the picture (compare front 2 holes to the back hole).

I can't seem to find this part anywhere for ordering online. Anyone know the P/N for this and any concerns driving the truck without the heat shield in place (no severe duty) until I get this resolved?

If you didn't hit anything and it just came loose, it should be covered under warranty. Make ford fix it.

I bent mine this weekend catching it on a rock. That was the first time I’ve seen the plastic tranny pan! Anyone know why, aside from cost, it’s plastic? Seems really vulnerable. We were not in really difficult terrain and still managed to snag and bend the heat shield. A little worse and I’m guessing i could have cracked the pan. We were 60 miles from a road. I guess my next purchase is a skid plate of some sort to protect the pan!

Didn’t realize the heat shield would also be so vulnerable as well! Definitely reinforces my decision to have a skid plate ready to install when the truck arrives.

FWIW here’s a good thread on skid plate options, including pictures of and a link to the one I got.

I can check with the parts guys at work tomorrow and post a part number

I noticed my heat shield on my 21 Tremor is also falling down while I was installing my new Amp power steps. My heart skipped a beat when I noticed the plastic transmission pan. I too will be looking into a skid plate.

You could put some washers between the broken shield and studs too might !and it more rugged too

Update…This is exactly the situation I implemented. The heat shield is back ordered from Ford which is no surprise. I basically used two oversized washers on each side of the heat shield nuts and cinched it down with the nut. Way better than before. The small area of the nut surface combined with the thin material of the heat shield allows these too shear out way to easily, adding the washers gives a lot more shear area to work with. If you are under the truck I’d recommend getting some washers on there, it is no more than a 5 minute job.

Send a pic of completed if you can. Hey were hiring at the shop! lol

They've been doing them since 18 on the ten speed alot of them warped and leaked in the beginning. We replaced alot under warranty
Has this warping and leaking issue been fixed in the newer models? I have a 2022 waiting on me, and the first thing I noticed was this plastic part. Made me nervous.

Vibrating/Rattle at idle? My 21 started doing a couple of weeks ago.

Mine started doing this a while ago and finally had time to try and deal with it. For me, it was the driver side shield. I pulled both off to inspect, ran to the hardware store for some washers without them on - shocker, no rattles. Came back and reinstalled the pax side one using just oversized washers for the two posts where it drops straight down and then went next size up for the rear post. I could see that the rattle was created by the two pieces hitting each other on the rearward side. I took my snips and trimmed the driver side one just inside the OEM pinch where they would come together in the back. I then folded over about 3/16" and created a new pinch to give it some rigidity, got the curves back the best I could and then reinstalled with washers top and bottom to sandwich the shield on this side. Fingers crossed the annoying rattle is gone. Talk about Ford pinching pennies everywhere they can. I think I have aluminum foil that is thicker than these stupid heat shields.

I had the same problem got some washers but hit a snag. A small fragment of that shield made it into the nut and stripped itself and the bolt. Swapped the bolt with one from passenger side not in use. Be sure to blow out the little shiny fragments before mounting the nut.

I am about to cut mine off...its loose at the back of the transmission behind the crossmember...all the bolts are tight.

All of the nuts may be tight, but the pos thin aluminum heatshield that ford uses will vibrate enough that the openings become the same size as the nuts and will drop down and/or rattle.

I trimmed mine and used oversized washers to sandwich it in place. The rattle is better, but not gone. The only time it was gone was when it wasn't installed on my way to get some more washers.

From reading other posts, ford did not have it originally, but the stupid plastic pan would warp and they were replacing too many under warranty. The heat shield is supposed to prevent that. If you take it off and it warps, wouldn't be surprised if ford denied warranty claim.

You mean my dealer fix could cause issues down the road? For the record I don't have any rattles... 🤷‍♂️

I ran over a yard light and that poked it and half was hanging down. The part was ripped but I can't find the part number anywher, has anyone found an answer to his original question; what is the part number?
