What do you guys do?

I go to Costco gas station, Im in my truck. Waiting in the long line of vehicles to get up to a pump, our station has three rows of pumps and they installed those newer indicators that show if there is a vehicle at the pump so if you cant see over / around the car in front of you you can tell if a pump opens up.

We pull up and wait for some time, the guy in front of me is in a super duty. Pump closest to us opens up and the raptor in front of him takes it. Then the farthest pump opens up. He sits there. About a minute later the middle guy leaves, now two of the indicators are showing green. He still sits there.

I say screw it, I go around him and pull to the forward pump. He sits there another minute, Im already filling up and then pulls in to the middle pump after the raptor leaves and starts to fill up. Guy behind him pulls to the third pump.

Yes or no? OK to do?

Wife says no, but I think she is just embarrassed that I do it. I say screw it. If you want to wait to drive straight through or you cant drive your truck and your are not comfortable "parallel parking" in that generous space they provide then thats up to you. If got stuff to do, you wait, ill get gas!

My biggest annoyance is when the regular cars and small trucks that are in the diesel/gas combo pump lane when there is plenty of other pumps elsewhere, where there is only one lane of pumps for diesel..

I'm with you. If someone wants to wait, they can wait. If they're waiting and someone from behind them grabs the empty spot, like you did, then they just can't be upset about it (or at least keep it to themselves). In your example it sounds like they weren't upset, so that's a win-win situation.

I often wait if it seems like the person most directly in front of me is relatively close to done. Saves me taking extra time to get parked because they're in the way, and them taking extra time to leave since I'm now in the way.

Most importantly: there's much bigger and better things to care about in life than how people go through a Costco gas line. When driving, it's best to chill out and enjoy the drive in a freakin' awesome truck.

All of ours are combo pumps so thats nice for the diesel owners.
Ditto. All the Costco pumps around me are dual gas/diesel (that's at 3 Costco's I've been to in the local area; yes, we have a lot of Costco's, though one of those is the original Costco, where the Kirkland brand was born :D).

I'm a Costco fan, but they don't carry deisel here in NE Florida. Our newest Costco is accross the street from a Bucee's so I fill up there. $4.99 last night at Bucee's.

Costco is by far cheapest around me, and always packed (regularly cycled) so I try to solely fill up there. While I agree with you that if the vehicle in front doesn’t want to take an empty pump, and you want to go for it..then go for it in most situations. The other day I pulled through with my boat though, and had to wait for the last pump or multiple pumps opened, and a line over was an RV waiting similarly. I was expecting some douche to see a pump open in my line and go for an empty pump, but nobody did to me or the RV. In that type of case, not cool lol.

I agree. If they are waiting for the car to finish up so they can just pull forward thats cool. If they have a RV or trailer and need to pull straight through thats also fine. But if they just want to wait... nope!

Costco is also always the cheapest around here as well. We always fill up or top off when we go on the weekends.

I asked a guy at Costco if he thought it was a good day to die.

He was in the lane next to us. We had large Chevy diesel and a large overlanding van filling in front of us the Chevy was filling a in bed tank so the van went around him and before I could put the truck in drive and pull foreword this little fart can Subaru zipped across the lane cutting us off and jumped the pump.

I honked at the ass clown and he flipped me off and yelled “fuck off boomer”

So I got out of the truck walked up to the skinny punk with a man bun and scrawny partial beard & asked him if it was a good day to die

Needless to say he will think twice before ever pulling such a stunt again

Did that cause him to leave?

As I approach the IDGAF point in life I'd be tempted to walk up to him and show him my watch.

"This watch is worth more than your POS car."

When he looks down at the watch I hit him with the uppercut.

Have you ever seen what goes into modifying a rice mobile, it’s far from cheap

The gas pump does not need a human to fill the tank

I dont like Costco, I don't like what goes on at Costco, therfore I don't go to Costco...Places like Costco/Wallmart/Sams attract the lowest common denominator of human being...I just pay few extra bucks somewhere else to limit my exposure.
I like Costco. I must be a real shitbag. Thanks for alerting me to that.

The lines at Vegas Metro area Costco just don't make it worth my time any more (plus they don't carry diesel here). When I ran a gasser, would go really late at night. Now I just use Gas Buddy and/or my Vons Card Points. Sometimes up to $1.00 off. At 25 gallons max fill credit, I can usually optimize my savings.

I get gas at Costco all the time, I like their top tier gas and prices. I keep it simple, I get in a line and wait my turn, no need to over think getting gas, I got other shit to worry about.

I wish my Costco has diesel. Not sure I would fill up there if they did, though. It's sooooooo busy. My time and frustration isn't worth the couple dollars I save.

The only time I go to Costco gas station is to fill my boat (75 gallons). The savings are worth the wait. I try to go in the middle of the day during the week. I get yelled at by somebody every time because my boat and truck block 3 pumps at once and it's not possible to pull forward so my boat only blocks the furthest pump. Sorry not sorry. You shouldn't have lined up behind me.

Addressing the original question..... if there's a open spot and somebody in front of you is not taking it, drive around them and use it. It's a simple as that. If you don't do it somebody else will.
